Nice vids of the recent comp at Teahupoo. If you missed it on the news, check out the middle one where the guy nearly wears his Jetski as a helmet.

Close one.

I saw Riding Giants at Llandudno Junction Cineworld last night.

Some really amazing footage and superb historical stuff from the 50s and 60s. Laird Hamilton is obviously super human, but perhaps most impressive was the guy who surfed Mavericks on his own for 10-15 years - outrageous!

Saw Riding Giants a while back, the guy woh surfed Mav on his own for 15 years is one crazy bastard alright. Cold water, long paddle, dangerous rocks, bold alright.

Not seen Billabong Odyssey yet. Step into Liquid is pretty cool, shows the diversity around the world, from surfers on the Great Lakes to Texans surfing the wake from oil tankers. Plus if you get the Region 1 version you get Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer Game, free.

thought riding giants tailed off when we got to the modern bit.  those fofties through eighties guys were way hard.  20 lus feet on the north shore on a wood board with no leash!!!
though hamilton is a don i got a bit pissed off with people jizzing on about how he rode teahuapoopoo or whatever it is called.  on odyssey there are tons riding it, one wad riding a shorty as if it was a long board (not quite hanging ten) and then it moves on to show people attempting to pull into a tube at jaws.
now if only i could work out how to stand up...

These are streams, they might only work with latest version of MediaPlayer. you might also need broadband even for the 'low' version. sorry.

Just saw Riding Giants - I thought it was pretty incredible (though I've never surfed) - that wave at the end is just stupifying....well, most of them are really. Mad respect to those guys and gals who do that shit.

I've also just downloaded "Step into Liquid" which is meant to be really good as well.

That guy surfing Mavericks, on his own, for what 15 years? Is pretty "out there" when it comes to pioneers.

I've got Step into Liquid on DVD. It is OK, more of a Warren Miller style, showing all aspects of the sport, (check out the crazy Texans!) rather than full on extreme footage; get Billabong Oddysey for that.

I watched Glass Love and Longer last week, both are really great films.  Glass Love is Andrew Kidmans sequel to 'Litmus' (my second fave surf flick after Morning of the Earth) whilst Longer is a Joel Tudor flick with him surfing all kinds of boards to a fantastic soundtrack.

http://www.litmus.com.au/html/glass_love.htm

Brilliant -both of them..... there's a fantastic section with some old footage of Pat Curren surfing Waimea in '58 on a Balsa gun and then cuts to Tom riding the same board 40 years later and then Pat, Tom and Joe surfing with Skip Frye out in the Hebrides - totally soul.

On a related note, I managed 7 out of 9 days in the water in Nth Wales the week before last which must be some kind of record for May and June!
