The very firm foam bought from the site I linked to is not as firm as the foam in some modern pads, but would definitely do for rejuvenating an old pad. The foams from that site are also relatively lightweight, which is a good thing, since my previous experiences of buying foam from a shop in Edin made an old pad twice the weight and twice as soft.

Would be good if any peeps find firmer open-cell foam than I managed to, or could even cheekily find out the spec. I reckon if a bunch of UKB'ers were to club together, could probably put in a special order and still get a good rate.

Anyone tried re-stuffing a Dropzone yet? I am keen and may give it a whirl so I'll let you a know if/when.

The cordless deluxe is pretty much the same size, just a bit thinner (75mm, dropzone is 90 I think). If you opt for what i suggested, it will not be as firm as a brand new one. It may well be that the tougher fabric will make a bit of a difference, since the lovely soft velour on the deluxe doesn't help the situation, but is now a useful second pad.

2nd useful pad sounds good to me - the Ronin is quite heavy to hoik up to the moorland grit come early summer  :weakbench:

I'm looking at getting a new pad and I think I've narrowed it down to either the dominator or the snap bun.  How have the dominators held up in the last 2-3 years?  Any issues with the zips or softening of the foam?  Any thoughts?

Having had both - get the Ocun. Mines still great 2 years on. No issues with the zip.

On the Dominator, is it possible to split the pads into two separate halves or does the zip arrangement keep them joined together all the time ?

I think they're zipped together. Never had need to split them tbh.

or the snap bun.

Everyone I know with one (myself included) has issues with the thin layer of dense foam sliding around the side of the mat. It's annoying.

Foams an inferior variety to the old buns too... Btw - if you wrap both foam parts tighly in polythene - they stop slithering..

Cheers Tom - I never thought to even try! I have some pallet wrapping cling film stuff, that'd do it for sure.

 :)

I noticed that Sharks POD mat where he hadnt bothered opening it up and removing the film - didnt have the same (slight ) foam movability that mine had (where I'd removed the film). It was quite sturdy plastic sheeting - carefully folded at the corners etc...  Hopefully will work...
