Beach & Blocs 2015
June 09, 2014, 07:33:42 pm
Summer 2015

I know it's a way off yet, but we were discussing alternatives to Font and I thought some where in the med (nice beaches) a bit of climbing, relatively cheap (i.e not >2500 euro all in for a family of 3) and chav free.  Usually the last week of July / first week in August.

Any suggestions for villas/gites or similar?

O.k Adriatic perhaps, not much further afield, certainly not keen on Greece at the moment.

PS Font is also 'kin warm then, memo to self la surplomb de marble isn't great in >35 degrees heat.

We're off to Croatia. Istria first then Paklenica. Probably be boiling but I'm hopeful of some evening sessions.

West coast of Portugal might be worth a thought, Sintra just inland has climbing in the trees and has been mentioned quite a bit before. Amazing historic buildings and gardens etc. Nice coast, was empty (and quite cool) when we were there at the beginning of June. it's gonna be much hotter and busier in July/Aug but shouldn't be as bad as the Algarve. Corsica looks nice but I guess would be roasting, haven't you been there before?

I would ditto the last comment. The sintra area is class. I have only been there surfing but have walked around the boulders, amazing looking but very rough, i did have proper soft surfing skin though.
The area is perfect for holidays though, great beaches/walking/biking/surfing/seafood/wine etc. Sintra is a beautiful spot and Lisbon is only 20 mins away.

Heard great things about this new place. http://thelodgeportugal.com/

Owned by a friend of a friend. No idea what your looking for so it maybe to up or down market for your tastes.

We stayed in the big villa of these guys, superb. 40min from Lisbon, beach is more sheltered than some. Several great seafood restaurants within a few 100m.  They have various other cottages.

How much stuff is there at Sintra for tubby punters, i.e. in the 4 to mid 6s range?

Boulding topo is available for 10euros to print. Looks like quite a bit presuming the grades under 6 are noted with roman numerals.

id say spain, a bit round the alrmeria area, monsul, turre, and more at other spots further down the coast. only issue will be the heat at that time of year. spain gets silly hot and climbing is not so good when youre sweating from every pore.

You don't fancy some DWS in midsummer heat Sloper? Be nicer than bouldering shirley?

I banged the drum a little posting videos before, but here it goes again  ;)

How about going to Galicia in Spain? Not as hot as the Med, cheap as chips, excellent beaches, hills and food, plenty of things to do and see, not a chav in sight, and world class bouldering.

For example, there's a village called Carnota that has this

It's at the foot of this

and within spitting distance of this (if it's good enough for Iker...)
