Does this constitute a partial call? Does such a thing exist?

Let's not show up the grit fraternity by making a half-arsed call like the infamous lime debacle...

Now now, I know we're all excited for a good grit season since it's been such a shite summer, but allow me to point out that the 16 day forecast has it getting progressively warmer from now into the start of october. Humidity's about to go up too.

Really good nick at curbar last might, in fact absolutely ideal conditions in the gorilla warefare stuff. Grippy without being too cold.

I sense panic in the luck based scrittle community.

Many scrittlers already out, videos posted, talk of perfect conditions..... and yet the temps are up and down and JB refuses to exit his lettuce filled cardboard abode.

Clearly this is nowhere near the abominable fuck up that Dobbin made of the lime call, but still....

Who wants to keep driving all the way to Malham / hang out in the mud at the Tor? (oh yes, I see...) But for everyone else, embrace your good luck. This idea of a grit season is So last season. If the temps drop to 13 degrees in Sheffield and the wind blows, that's it, and it's good enough for most of us punters in any case - we're not after those freezing-fog-but-rock-weirdly-just-dry-and-unbelievably-sticky days that come around once every few years. We're too old and too soft for hot aches and all that. Besides which it'll probably rain all the way through November, so grab it while you can.

This is like kids waiting for Christmas

Quote
Daaaad, can you call the grit?

Nah, it's too early

but it's freeezing

Maybe in the mornings, in the wind, in the shade.... Honestly it's not ready yet, just be patient.

But it's soooo cold right now

Well you can take your opportunities but overall it's not time

oooh but I Love the grit

I know, we all do but we just have to be patient

But I can't wait, I wanna go climbing

the lime's pretty good at the moment...

but I hate the lime, I reeeeally love the grit

why don't you do some training, then you'll be ready when the time comes

Oh, but I hate training, it's just so hard

Well if you don't practice you might not do very well when the time comes

it's so unfair, everybody's waiting, why don't you just call it?

Ok ok, go on, climb on it, but I'm telling you it's not ready.  Don't come running to me when you grease off a sloper and break your leg.

….............

I'm far happier being part of the luck based scrittle community than the "waiting for the perfect conditions for my white stuff project to be 'in' - but in the meantime ill pull on dull plastic and further the pension pots/wine cellars of climbing wall owners community"
what's the acronym?

As has been illustrated if you're smart/lucky you can find decent nick on the grit here and there, it's just not on general release yet.  But if you do want to climb on some rock in very good condition find your self some shady limestone of a morning.  You might find all those memories you have about pulling on minging greasy holds in horrible warmth and humidity have passed, you'd be amazed at how much better the holds work when it's cooler, and you might even get fit* for grit season.

I did think a sign of the grit was the fact I came back from the works on an evening without looking like i've wet myself but you are correct, the limestone is bob on at the moment.

'luck based scrittle community' - genius, deserves a t-shirt

a quick Go ogle of luck based scrittle shows the top results involving J Sharpe or P Bennett

Sharpe is badly injured and, well, Bennett's luck is legendary

agree not close to a proper calling yet but very good at Burbage north today, windy, cold although Remergance area was way too warm for the grit being called!

All you luck based scrittlers are so bloody precious about 'the call'. Just get on with it and stop the whinging; no more of the 'Oh I can't go on the grit it's not 3.50C and 61.2735% humidity with a light NE wind' moans FFS...  :furious:

You were the one who sanctimoniously bollocked me for climbing on the grit "before it had been called".

That's because you only ever climb on the grit. Including summer. Even when almost every other rock would be better. And your young, with floppy hair, tight trousers and stupid, stupid belts  :tease:

Thanks for the correction and the well made point. It's happens with age. One question, what's a record? I use CD's and mp3's...  :P
