If today isn't a perfect grit day then I don't really know what is!

Just after I’ve left and gone back to HK - Sod’s Law…

I'm sat at work so you're not the only one missing out!

Hope springs eternal but it’s still going to be a later call than last year.

Perhaps we should present our findings at COP 27 to finally quash any climate change deniers.

It's got to be today. I got frozen off Asylum Sika, whilst wearing 4 layers... the time is now.... crunchy leaves and everything. Miracle is I'd booked this day off 10 weeks ago.. and, BOOM!

Wasn’t too cold for routes at Froggatt today (I kind of dread the call these days because it usually marks the end of the trad season) but it was the first time I’ve climbed in a baselayer since early April. Beautiful day with those long mid-afternoon shadows.

Let us know next you’re planning to go out Fatdoc, it’s obviously some magic conditions thing you’ve got going on there! Or hit me up for a Boulder sometime. Millstone was mint today too!

Everyone foaming at the mouth after one day of dry conditions reminds me of this;

This (4th November) was the first day of the new season that I had to cover my ears on my cycle to work. Proper face numbing coldness.
It wasn't so cold cycling home though...

This just sums up grit season though doesn't it. Especially Autumn. We always have our rose tinted specs on as the temperature starts to drop but really this time of year is always characterised by humidity and dampness more than it is cold and crisp air.

This is shocking, at the current rate we’ll be lucky to see a call in November.

It’s a bold call when it’s been a balmy September day out there, but I guess the portents are the portents!

It was 17'C as I was driving out yesterday and the problem I wanted to try was condensed due to the temp rise  :-\

Stop trying condensed problems then. Even with warmer temps it's been minty minty fresh in the breeze today.

I would like to propose the grit being called. A wonderfully cold, golden evening, midgeless and the bracken has almost fully died off near the edges.

The slopers felt crisp, jug like even. Heel hooks aplenty, compression everywhere in sight. It was beautiful, just beautiful.

We’re looking at about 18-20 degrees next week and this would be more than a month earlier than last year.

Also not sure there’s been a single sign yet

I’d trust the forecast about as much as rishi sunak.

It was 7 degrees yesterday morning and quite frosty too around 6.30 - we’ve had a few single digit days I think!

I would like to propose you stop talking nonsense, but just like a 1 month premature grit call, i doubt it's going to happen  ::)

Someone getting psyched and suggesting grit should be called on the first pleasantly cool day of the year is as much of a tradition as the call itself though isn’t it?

It’s the point between now and the call (traditionally marked by bickering on this thread- the first “what are you on about, I just climbed a hard limestone route” post is surely only seconds away) that’s the best bit of the year in my opinion, decent conditions for pretty much any type of rock climbing and still a reasonable amount of daylight.  :2thumbsup:

Right? Someone has to unearth and get the ball rolling on this thread every year, I had a lovely evening on the grit so I thought why not
