I was womping round Caley mostly in a t-shirt on Saturday. The connies aren't the worst, but it didn't feel like grit season was here yet either, calm your passions.

It felt Baltic at Baslow on Saturday... Mainly because we went to the (B)Eagle Stone which is probably one of the more exposed and isolated lumps of rock in the Peak on a rather windy day!

Less ideal connies on Sunday when a couple of hours of persistant mizzle/drizzle I think pretty much ruled out anything grit based so we humbly retreated to le Tor.

Not sure why anyone’s factoring rain into it- it’s autumn in Britain, it’s obviously going to rain but most grit will be dry again as soon as there’s a breeze.

Anyway, it’s still been fine weather for onsight (or ground up at least ) trad on the eastern edges this last week- the call usually coincides with the point where temps mean bouldering or headpointing becomes preferable so we’re at maybe three of of the five conditions.

I wonder if a graph of the last 12 years of calling dates would show a clear trend. Interesting to see that the chat started in September the first year, but we are most of the way through October and still not that near.

Is there any measurement uncertainty on the calling dates?

Grit calling is highly correlated with the calling of the central heating (to be turned on) by the less hardy members of the family down here. Not a squeak from them yet.

Well according to that rule it’s been grit season since the end of September in our house.

An insightful but highly worrying post. The rot must be stopped and the trend must be reversed!!

Especially given the "so bad it must be satire" pre-blizzards Lime call this year, that should be compensated for too. A retrospective grit call for 10 days ago might go some way to make amends.

I think a good sign of the actual start of the season is when people stop having to caveat their good grit conditions 😄

Last sign, as I'd hoped, at 6am this morning. A beautiful dawn over Khute, mist in the valleys and a taste of hope in the wind. The wheel has come full circle.

The wheel rolls inexorably forwards, guided by the hand of Father Time himself, crushing the filthy choss-polishers and their insta-proj dreams in it's weighty path, like the fragile egg-shells they are  :2thumbsup:

Looks set to rain for the entire week after today, so that sounds about right for the start of grit season these days 😄

Had to turn on my heating for the first time in 9 months. I may never financially recover, but the grit must be nice.
