Wilton Quarries under auction in October
September 12, 2008, 11:50:17 am
It looks as though Wilton are going to go under the hammer in October - UU seem set on selling it off again in spite of diversion tactics last yearby the BMC - Let's hope it doesn't fall into the wrong hands, otherwise this could prove disastrous for climbers - see http://www.thebmc.co.uk/News.aspx?id=2751

I can't see there being a lot of interest in them, especially with resident bats etc and irate climbers moaning.

Fingers crossed it goes okay. I'd chip in more than my fair share. If I paid a quid for every route I've really enjoyed there....it would be a fair few quid.

Plus, I doubt the Gun Club will be very happy if they lose the use of 2 and 3.

Can't see it selling. The property climate isn't exactly hot and the development costs would be so high as to be prohibitive from the perspective of anyone who wants to make money. Coupled to the obvious high level of objection, and the fact that you'd be evicting a bunch of gun wielding psychos.

Can't see any rational person bidding anything.

Fuck me, only just seen this post.  I learnt to climb at the Wilton's and have a special place for them on my heart  :-*

Who would want to buy them? Maybe the BMC will step in a la Craig y Longridge

Aye but still a worrying development in terms of crags being commodities, if there is a market then the incentive is for other owners to sell up if they think they're sitting on a pot of money. Hopefully it'll receive little interest.
