weights query
August 21, 2008, 05:59:56 pm
Hi,

2 questions - (Please excuse my ignorance)

1)  What is this called :- similar to a lat pulldown but done standing up, facing the pull down machine.  Start with arms at 90 degrees to waist and push bar down till arms are straight.  The kind of thing you do to for mantelling/ locking holds down to your waist, I think.

2) Is there any way or replicating this excersise with dumbells?

Cheers,
Dave

Stand on your head, or rig up a pulley.

it's a tricep extension. lift a dumbbell above your head, keep your upper arm vertical and let the weight fall naturally to the back of your head, lift and repeat. you can aid/get used to the movement by supporting the outside of the bicep with your other arm.

Dave

As Dense says its a tricep press. Anther way todo it with out dumbells is dips or reverse dips ie hands behind you on the edge of a chair, feet on floor and dip down. I ll show you down at the wall next weekwall. Will it make you stronger at mantelling?...probably not.
