British Heart Institute Diet
August 07, 2008, 02:23:22 pm
Does anybody know anything or heard about this:

http://website.lineone.net/~tomoore/

As far as net searches go, it appears it's nothing to do with the British Heart Institute and it's based on a similar theory to the Atkins diet. Other than I didn't see much else. A friend of mine has lost loads of weight, about three quarters of a stone, after doing this once a week for three weeks.

Anybody know anything how it works? Or anybody that has tried it?
I'm going to give it a go and will let you know...

Sounds similar to something my mum uses.  She claims she loses weight on this (I'm not in the habit of watching my mothers weight).

Personally I think its like all diets, and only has a short-term effect.  Long term weight-loss requires a change in life-style.

Is part of the diet sucking on one a day?

If your bollocks look like that I'd recommend seeing a doctor.

given it says that you will lose 10lbs in 3 days it will be one of those hospital diets they put 20 stone+ folk on who just had a heart attack.

Indeed. It appears that somebody has been naughty and used their name (by mistake?). I'm just surprised that they haven't stopped it if they haven't sanctioned it.
Off to do the shopping to start tomorrow  :-\

I reckon so. I am not expecting to loose 10lbs, but a few, 3 or 4, would be good.

What a crock of shit.

40lbs in a month? Thats way above a healthy rate and utter bullshit.

Personally I think its like all diets, and only has a short-term effect.  Long term weight-loss requires a change in life-style.

Couldn't agree more, if you seriously want to change your body composition (Gain Muscle, Lose Fat, Loose 'Weight' etc.) then a change in lifestyle AND diet is necessary and is the only way to make a lasting change. I've read an awful lot about this recently and the more I read I reckon that the majority of people just wouldn't stick at it.

My mum will follow a weight watchers diet to the letter then when she hits her target just return back to her previous lifestyle, now I'm not recommending following WW permanently but it might be worth addressing the issues that caused your body to be something your unhappy with, surely?

Agreed. Long term changes to weight (inc % body fat etc) need long term lifestyle changes. However, I only have three UK climbing weeks left before I emigrate to NZ and need to make some ticks on a rather alarmingly long tick list. Shedding a few of the alcohol induced pounds quick (stressful last two weeks of the teaching term) seems to be the way forward. So even if I put a few back on again, after a few ticks, I'll be happy. Or at least that's the plan.

you only need to follow the advice of nigella

you're not going to make marked strength gains in 3 wks, you need to eat less and run, eat less and run, eat less and run.

short term only of course

The first gains in anything are likely to be water loss. The above will be highly catabolic it may work for you but you may feel even weaker.

the other night i was in the gym fighting with some barbells and a girl was talking to two dudes who were already bored after five minutes of chatting on the cyclettes. anyway, she was clearly the professional among the three, and i heard her saying that "in the first ten minutes of aerobics you burn mostly fat. that's why you sweat alot, because you burn fat, sugars, water. you burn everything".
i kicked the shit out of my weights.

I appear to have lost and kept off 3 or 4lbs equating to 2cm off the belly.

Although I can confirm that I was so hungry on the second night, that after much tummy rumbling, I woke up dreaming of a massive ham sandwich.

Didn't quite make it all the way through on the strict version on the third night as I had three slices of toast. The weight loss isn't water as I  was drinking about 4 litres of water a day just to take away the hunger pangs.

Given it has worked so well, I'm on another days training and then going for the diet again, hopefully to lose another 3 or 4 lbs.
