I can't get a pass out for Friday - although the route looks beyond my abilities at the moment - especially in the dark. The wife to be has organised for us to go to some brown nosing event - should be great.....NOT, anyway she's told me I can't come - That's me told.

I'm up for Sunday though - early start good for me.

i'd heard about that one although i'd also heard it had been dug out by the rangers, i.e. un rideable. have you been down it recently?

i take it you are referring to the last, dh, section cofe?

that's right. not been able to find anyone who can confirm. JB doesn't know but heard some rumours.

FD, the dh section was really nothing to get too excited about, just a little descent to finish off the fp version of Winhill.  You could probably still ride the same bit of hillside almost anywhere without a trail having been dug.

So meet tonight at 1830 at Yorkshire Bridge?  Up and down Winhill somehow, either up fp and back down same or up west side ascent and down fp or the Beast, up Hagg farm switchbacks, down to Fairholmes (should be lovely and muddy) over reservoir (not swimming), up Whinston Lee Tor cobbles, down to Devils elbow and Ladybower pub.

Who's in?

Not riding tonight as I'm at work on my road bike, but I'll be there on Sunday.

It comes to something when you have to get up earlier at the weekend to ride than during the week to get work!

Early morning rides are great. Should we not re-name this thread: Fatdoc's XC Saddle Sniffers club?

err... no

but have no doubt there will be moderators in the private forum plotting my humiliation as we type  :(

Norton & I have put an end to our dithering and the final plan is 18:30 tonight at the ladybower Inn carpark. This guarantees I get a pint at the end of the ride, as it's friday my beer inner body time clock will be screaming at me by the end of the ride... :beer2:

As for sunday, I'm obliged to pour myself out of bed at some stupid time due to other committments in the afternoon [i.e; a family]. As there are so many of us on here currently into MTB  it's not unreasonable to have more than 1 ride... I know Norton is often keener for a more normal start time on sundays....

right, here it is...

ready to ride at 9 a.m prompt tomorrow at carpark after the Yorkshire Bridge pub (on the right if coming from bamford) off the A6013

after last night I'm tempted to do the same route, much as norton suggested above, but with a quick jaunt up the A57 to get to climb the far easier track / rd to lockerbrook to avoid climbing the hagg farm switchbacks...

if someone wants to tempt me to do the route in reverse and then go searchin for this elusive trail down to the dam off win hill i could be persauded... depends on numbers.

I'll txt non forum members (jerry and big G)

for rant of the day see the general MTB thread btw  ;)

That went pretty well didn't it? Only 1 broken frame, 1 broken fork and 2 damaged legs to report from a 25km ride.

The legs and the forks all belonged to Fatdoc, but he took it fairly well I thought.

Other than that it was a good laugh: mud, grit, hills, rocks and roots but no rain. And all back in time for lunch.

A few pictures to follow hopefully.

be good to see those pics mate..

knees bruised, cut shin, strained neck, brusied bonce and genarlly a bit stiff... not bad for a simple front wheel washout.. and accompanying smack down.. no knee pads would have been bad... very bad... a day spent in from the Wii is in order i feel.

good news ; i fixed the fork  8) long story about an O ring and a travel adjuster which is now sorted....cant help thinking that trying to catch Cofe back up whilst on a deflating fork has something to do with my little skirmish with the floor  ::)

bad news; those shifters of mine are f8cked. on order for wiggle now.... BTW great deals on there for shimano stuff, 40% off a lot... I'm stocking up on mechs etc!! nect years prices are huge! god bless the global economy.... most of which is propped up by my XC MTB habit  God, and I thought downhilling was expensive!

hope to be back up and running by weds...

I'm planning on getting some shares with Shimano & wiggle and then ensure that fatdoc breaks lots of things - which he seems to have a particular skill at. I'm surprised there's a fully functioning bike in his collection at the moment.

Maybe we can save the world economy if fatdoc keeps riding!!!!!

Maybe its gear trashing week - I got 2 punctures riding to work today, both within a mile or so of each other, thankful not as inconvienent as a total frame or fork failure.

Slight change of plan.  Will be working late so 1830 start will be impossible.  Let me know where you are going and I will hopefully catch you up (in the pub).

I'm now dependant on big G's work finish... so it will be 18:30 to 18:45 from mine,  a local ride for local people - with all the local variants... this means catching me up at eccy woods at 19:15 ish a real possibility for you norton... txt me l8tr
