Last minute change of plans due to crap west coast weather forecast, and heading to Northumberland. Midges out in England generally yet?

I got bitten a couple of times at Warton the day before yesterday, and again last night up the Pass. Not clouds of evil blood sucking bastards like you get up north, but a few around. Seems like only a few weeks since the hills were plastered in snow, and suddenly it's roasting hot!

if you go somewhere out of the wind, then chances are there'll be midges. not sure is the county in general is as bad as the peak for midges, but they've been out for months in the peak if you go to the wrong crag.

Don't think the county is as bad for midges as the peak in general, and I must have been lucky (or not climbing enough) as I haven't felt any midges in the peak yet this year.

Ended up at Bowden, where it was roasting. Not a beastie in sight. Yesterday weather was a bit pish and I was hungover, so stopped at Hawkcraig.

In harrogate for a wedding on Friday, then Leeds for weekend. Given showery forecast, is Caley likely to be midge hell? Should I head straight to the 'cliff? Not climbed at Caley for years.
