Dislocated Elbow
April 16, 2008, 08:31:18 pm
I flew to another province for a regional bouldering competition on the weekend only to dislocate my elbow falling off my first attempt on the first problem.

Anyway i'm wondering if anyone has had or knows someone who's had this injury and if so how long did it take to be able to climb again and if there were any permanent effects with regards to climbing or regaining maximum strength.

The doctors were fairly vague in their answers.

thanks, dave

Dislocation, or have you got a fracture as well?

Generally these need about 3 weeks immobilisation, followed by physio.
Pulling on it will take time- generally 2 months at least Re: climbing.
One problem is that you often fail to obtain full extension of the elbow, due to anterior capsular contracture.
