Physio in North West
March 12, 2008, 04:59:59 pm
I've been struggling with pain in my shoulder for a while now and have been taking it very easy (barely climbing, no training) for a month now.  The pain is very gradually going but as this seems to be a recurring issue (several times over the past few years) I feel that I should see someone who knows about what's wrong and could help me with some exercises to help sort the problem out.  From reading stuff I'm guessing that it's tendonitus and I need to balance my back/shoulders etc out a bit.

As the title suggests, I'd like some advice on physios in the north west because I want to see someone who ain't just gonna sound like a GP and say "stop climbing, have a long rest".  No offence meant to GP's or the average NHS physio who has to have good working knowledge on such an incredibly wide range of stuff and has better things to do than deal with a whinging climber, its just I want help from someone who really knows shoulders and climbers shoulders in particular.  A few friends who've seen local physios (I live in Liverpool) have all said that I need to find someone different to the person that they saw (if that makes sense).

So, any suggestions or recommendations?  If not, my mates on the other side of the Pennines to me have suggested getting in contact with more specialist physios in Sheffield but I could do without having to drive quite that far.  Obviously I will if I have no joy in the North West.

Many thanks.

Sorry if it sounds screamingly obvious, but is Matt Donnelly not the man to speak to living down the road from us?

Yeah, but I don't really want to hassle him too much.  I know he's always so good at giving us advice, but I feel a bit crap asking for a lot of help (which I want this time) when he's spent all day at work dealing with his old folks and their problems.
