GPS for laptop
February 24, 2008, 06:27:43 pm
After following Dobbin over the weekend trying to find a crag I've decided to invest in a GPS receiver.  My mobile won't run the tomtom software so I'm looking to add something to my EEE PC.

It doesn't have bluetooth so I'm looking at either a USB version or compact flash (PC has a card reader). Does anyone have any opinions on what is a better system?

Thanks in advance

Jim

You can hardwire a gps reciever into your laptop, I saw a guide somewhere on t'interweb

A Sony w810i

I think wayfinder(?) works on it

I've read the hardwiring thing but it involves soldering which I'm shit at.  My cats attacked the wires on my modded xbox and I fucked up the new solder!

Are the cards/usb wank then?

I would strongly recomend using a phone as a sat nav device rather than a laptop. Either get wayfinder or get a phone that supports tomtom or route 66 etc...
