Guidebooks formats- landscape v portrait
February 11, 2008, 03:48:07 pm
After the recent increase in the number of landscape style guides (Yorkshire Grit vol 1, Ru's Peak Guide), I just wondered what people preferred.  I personally prefer portrait, but don't ask me why 'cos I'm not sure.
Is one better than the other?

And this is supposed to be a comparison of equally good guides- assume they are exactly the same content except for format.

portrait - sits nicer on bookcases, and easier to handle on the bog.

The portrait ones get blown around enough in the wind as it is.  Landscapes would be fluttering off into the heather (I'd imagine since I don't own any).

Prefer hard-back/hard-plastic coating on the guides as well, rather than flimsy card-board which invariably gets all soft and mushy and eventually waves goodbye to the pages its supposed to be protecting.

Portrait just seems sturdier to me.

Do you not find landscape stays open across you knees whilst otherwise engaged, whereas portrait flops closed?  Or have you got something you use as a bookmark?   :-\

i tend to use my hands when reading a book. lanscapes only stay open if you're near the middle, or you have to ben them about to stay open which wrecks the spine.
