Anyone listened to Metallica's Death Magnetic?

Am I alone in thinking this is over-long, dull nonsence?

Most tracks are 7 minutes plus, the riffs are forgettable, the guitar solos are woeful.  The riffs tend towards the broken rhythm, but not in a good way.  I expect clever, technically competent widdlings from Dream Theater, but if they came up with this I'd go piss in James LaBrie's pint.

Nope. I was listening to Enter Sandman was on Alice Cooper's breakfast show on Planet Rock this morning and It was obvious that Metallica peaked with 'Metallica Metallica'.

I quite like some of the Black album, although it became too commercial.  Can't beat Ride though.
I'm glad I didn't pay money for this latest arsewater

Give it time GCW, its a grower... Judas Kiss is f in top. But it does nt compare with anything pre Black, but then its a relief after the last 10+ years of shit they've done.

Fade to black 4ever

On a DM tip, check Necrophagist; possibly the most autistic metal I've ever heard. Some good live footage on the tube as well but obviously nowhere near as tight as the studio recordings.

On a fast tip, can't beat the North East's Vorhees http://www.myspace.com/voorheesuk, all the other hardcore bands on their top friends are good too.

Vorhees are good, I remember their Peel Sesion from '95.

Lecky said they stole the cabs from that session,  punks rob John Peel!

Did you catch them live in that era? Some of the best stories I've heard in hardcore were ones about Vorhees gigs, but wasn't around to see them myself

Alas no.

I used to tape all the Peel Sessions, cut out the neat tracks and make "supertapes".  I remember the name as I could never work out how it was spelt and never saw a record to buy.  Vorhees must've made it to a supertape.

I used to love the band, 16.  I had their Curves That Kick LP, I thought it had the most badass artwork ever:

Check em out.  Heavy.

It's Voorhees.

I saw them a lot late 90s in leeds. great band. Shame what happened with Wisdom and Out of Step (Steve Stewart still has an ebay shop - check it out).

My band jams in that building, courtesy of one Mr Ian Leck. Legend.

Shame about Wisdom/OoS. Is Steve still in Sex Maniacs? Did Leck do a band called Meatlocker or something with a load of toon kids?

I saw them live in Milton Keynes many years ago. Supported by Samael who were a proper bunch of satanists in the mould of Deicide.

I really should have checked out this thread properly earlier  :rtfm:

I've only just started listening to Entombed (left hand path is a great shout Fiend), despite the fact that the last time the band I was in had a reunion gigging weekend (5 years ago ish) we covered Eyemaster, which is fully my favourite  Entombed song(and obviously good fun to play on the bass)  :dance1:

I saw them a few times in the early - mid 90s, supporting Slapshot in Huddersfield I think, plus various gigs at the Duchess of York in Leeds. Very intense live!

Slapshot are one of my all time faves, despite them being quite shit.

agreed with Slapshot being an amazing shit band, but I think that's a staple of hardcore. Frontman's a hairdresser now I heard.
