Downloading shizzle
November 01, 2007, 11:01:36 pm
After reading all bout Oink etc that have been closed down, I started wondering where the best place is to get music, um, on the cheap/free.

I had somthing called soulseek installed on my computer by a friend but it wouldn't work properly or I couldn't work it properly  :wall: . Without trying to sound simple, I cant seem to figure out how to use most torrent websites. I'd ideally want a site that I simply type in the song I wont, which then it finds and I download it. Job done. I tried Limewire but 99% of people said don't bother as it messes your computer up.

Can some kind person please point me in the direction I need to go in, and possibly supply me with a fool proof guide?

Cheers.

I don't bother with Soulseek anymore, it never seems to have much on it.

I would sign up to STMusic while you still can - it's growing nicely and currently has about 19,000 torrents on it compared with about half that number a few days ago. I suspect they will close signups sooner or later because there is an invite system in place.

The big hype is surrounding waffles.fm and what.cd but they are both closed. I'm hoping to get a waffles invite as an ex Oinker but we'll have to see.

It's going to take anywhere a while to grow to Oink's grand stature but it'll happen eventually. Hydra theory....when one head gets cut off, two more sprout to replace it.

Another vote for Azureus :)

Not had any problems with v3.0.2.2 - works fine for me.

Now you lot will have to excuse my Cumbrian simplicity, but I take it you need something like bitcomet, or azureus in order to downlaod stuff from STmusic? Do you simply install azureus and then join STmusic?

I must seem like a technological caveman!

That's a deeply disturbing photo.

You need to join the site and install azureus and that's about it :)

BUT and it's a big but...you need to share/seed and keep a good ratio or else most of the bittorrent communities will boot you out after a short while. Several people I invited to Oink just didn't get the idea and didn't last more than a few weeks.

If you're new to it all then i recomment having a read of: http://btfaq.com/serve/cache/1.html

you also need to download java but it tells you this on the web site. The new version works just the same as the old one, you just need to turn all the bullshit graphixs stuff off

I'm currently trying to install azureus, and it is asking for java to be installed. But it keeps just getting stuck at a certain point saying it is downloading the java runtime enviroment???

Maybe try installing java seperately before you install Azureus

And using it got you banned from Oink because of misuse by cheaters ;)

Piratebay are rumoured to be hosting "Oink 2" whatever that ends up being...

isohunt especially, and torrentspy are just torrent search engines and don't host any torrents, they just link to other sites. Most of the torrents are from demonoid anyway.I use demonoid all the time its great bu you need an invite (which I can give you) but your better off getting the hang of things with torrentspy first.
Before installing azureus, google java and go to there site and download java first otherwise azureus will not work

It would appear that PG2 blocks utorrent as it now belongs to Bittorrent Inc... All this has passed me by- anyone know why the Inc is seen as bad, without me having to trawl Google?

I tried Azureus but it would now seem to be this feature and graphics heavy Azureus Vuze... looks a bit much for a P2P client....

There must be an option somewhere because I'm running the latest version of Azureus but it looks  exactly the same as all the old versions.
