Front lever campus moves
October 22, 2007, 10:26:56 pm
Anyone seen or heard of such a thing?
I've had a go, but end up a bit pikey (20 or 30 degrees bent) when I hit the 2nd rung - probably due to trying it too 'square on'. Can hold the lever on smallish rung at Climbing Works, but loose flat form when reaching for second rung - can then regain horizontal form with one hand on each (1&2) rung.
I think I will be able to do one with a bit of effort/training - my idea is to rotate my body ( a la John Gill 1 arm lever, but not holding it static ) to do the reach to the second rung and let the rotation take the momentum rather than the pike as it did on Wednesday. I'd like to keep body and legs horizontal throughout the move.
I have no doubt that this move will have no relevance to real bouldering, but I will be well impresseed if I ever do it.
What I'm really wondering is whether this is something that has already been done and if so, are there any standard 'rules' or any tips on how to do it?
Or am I just deluding myself that this is possible and have just found a new and very quick way to aquire some more injuries?

How do you not bash your nuts on the wall?

Do you mean a L-shaped hang rather than a full lever?

I'm well impressed if you can do a lever off the small rungs BTW

I mean a full lever.
Ls are easy if your legs are as thin as mine  ;). The smallness of the rungs doesn't make much difference to the effort involved in full levering off rungs (actually wondering if extra reach due to extended fingers makes them easier than off bar). As for bashing nuts... I can just about front lever off 3rd rung with body/legs just up against underside of board (at Works) so doing 1-2 is nut-safe.
I am tallish (6') with +ve ape and looking for no strings fun and maybe more (oh shit, wrong site  :-[).
Ability to lever seems to be due to my body shape rather than owt else.

I'm doing dead hangs and stretching as instructed. This is just a supplementary bit of wrongness to keep the sick side of my mind from getting bored and causing trouble.

I have never heard of such a bazzar thing, is there any point, as you could only go up one rung before smashing all your body under the board

but hey if you can do them

what do you hope to gain from them

Just the satisfaction of putting an odd product of my imagination into practice - and impressing myself, hopefuly.
Surely someone else has thought of trying this before?
Obviously it will be graded font 7b if I ever do it.

I forgot to add to this inane thread. I tried to do this (or should that be "did this"), and can conclude it's not particularly hard and if you can do front lever's easily then I don't see why you can't do it.

As an inane update; after a second go, I still can't keep my body and legs horizontal as I hit the second rung.

If only I had thought it through properly.
I'm on the 1,0,0,0,0,0.....0,1 training plan and should really have waited the full 40 days before getting out of bed again
