Ronin AIR pads, who wants one then?
July 26, 2007, 09:33:12 am
Right,

you can order these direct form canada, with a price for one being $600CAN.

You can see they have the potential to be awesome. But you pay near on double compared to foam pads.

My ankles are so shagged that i'm getting one. I doubt there's a massive market in the UK for these, sooooooooo.......

I though about a non profit one off bulk order by me, to anyone on here that wants one... you'll have to have it if you say you want it, or my credit card will explode! (bulk order should keep the carriage to the minimum).

And: I havnt gone into the import tax bit yet.... so this is a specialist bit of kit that costs a fair bit of dosh!

here's the product

www.flashed.com/Ronin_2007.pdf

i know of a couple of peeps that are interested... I'm gonna order in the next week or so... feel free to join in the order if you interested...

You gonna spend 300 notes without testing one out?

I can sell you a load of bubble wrap for £200 - just replace your foam with it :)

A collapsible/inflatable mat seems painstakingly obvious doesn't it? Well it didn't to me until just now. It seems a shame they need to blind you with science in that pdf document. It also seems a shame they need to write cheesy shit like Air Technology all over the cover.

I think I'd feel a bit of a spaff sporting one of those at the crag at the moment. A bit like brandishing any product on the market that has 'As seen on TV' on it. I'd probably also feel a spaff for paying that much money.

I can definitely see the future though, and like everything, I'm sure they'll become widely available and at a cheaper price as existing manufacturers catch on.

Feedback doc.

i'm happy with the technology to buy it now. i know peeps that have landed on one a few times...

sod lookin a spaff, that's what we all thought when pads first came out.... now look at the hordes of pad people all over the world!! fashion vs. my ankles... i'm happy with the odd looks! christ , I still wear lyrca !!!

as for cheaper air pads.... there are more than a few patents on this thing i would presume...

i agree the styling could be less full on though...

yep, i'm defo going for one.

Are they collapseable then? Be nice to be able to fine tune the padding via an air pump or something.

[update] Looks like they do now ship stuff internationally, should cost $70CAN less canadian tax, but plus UK customs (I doubt a mat would 'slip' through customs un-noticed!)

oh yeah, and you need to be a member to use MEC, doesn't cost much though.

nope. if they were i'd be well up for it.

I'm gonna have to wait to get home (with the current deluge that could be a problem) to check out the MEC site.

Anyone know how to find out the import duty?? be good to know exactly what the total cost would be... i agree, a parcel the size of a small car is not likely to get through - may as well be straight up with it all.

Probably find some useful info at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk (or more specifically here)

Although strangely "Bouldering Pads" aren't listed under Common Internet Goods

i've emailed customs. Certainly the income tax dept has always come back to me pronto - there again that's cos they usually want money off me!

cant make head nor tail of their site..... nightmare.

I've asked what % tax you pay on USA and canadian imports, looks like it could be anything from 4.5 to 15%!!!!! This could have a bearing on where we buy them from.

The customs & excise phone helpline is usually pretty good. When we were going to import those Czech Pad's a while back they gave us loads of info.

I'd buy from Canada on principal to stop my money going towards the evil US war machine. Oh wait, i'm living in the UK so most of my cash goes into the same pot ;)

I was searching for bouldering mats on ebay earlier in the week and came across these Ronin mats. Just searched again now and cant find them! They look brill. The company was a US exporter I think. Can`t remember the price though.

Dunno if this would work out since it's a foreign import, and sporting gear to boot, but you could possibly import it as an item of 'medical equipment' for your fucked ankles....

I know you can avoid the VAT on a Tempur mattress by buying it as a piece of medical equipment for your spine.
