Magic Wood
July 18, 2007, 02:13:19 pm
Right... the girlfriend is off on holiday for 3 weeks, leaving me with her nice frugal diesel, i'm thinking of heading over to magic wood (from sheff), probably monday for anywhere up to 3 weeks, anyone fancy it? There's loads of people going out and I would fly but with the XXL pad it's a pain (and I reckon, given the ferry is 20 quid each way) that it won't work out much different.

Hi Paul,  me and shiv drove out last year and it wasn't too bad. We stopped off overnight in France at an F1 and did the rest of the drive the next day. If you're on your tod or the only driver don't try and do it in a oner or you'll probably kill yourself. I once drove to Frankenjura on my own stacked up on Cafeine for 22h solid (bar stops) and almost fell asleep on a  few occassions. 3 weeks is plenty of time for the wood and an extra day won't make a difference. Infact conditions allowing you could tick a lot of the wood in that time!

Have a good one and maybe you'll bump in to JonBoy & Fi.

..and half of Merseyside.

I'm sure a load of others from the Northern belt are making the trip within this period. You won't be stuck for punters to hook up with lad.

Yeah, the dodgy half.  The better half are heading out there in a month.

cheers everyone, there are loads of people out there, plenty to hook up with, even going to throw a rope in, in case the weather is bad just would obviously prefer someone to sit in the car with me, won't do it in one even on the caffeine (with my luck that would be certain death)....
Noone else psyched?

I'll be there monday morning. Hopefully were going to bump into jon-bon-lovejoy and fi next week, they should be in das Krankenjura now I think
I am super psyched and feeling a lot stronger than I did on my last swiss trip (maybe too many giant sandwich's?)

whens the (plastic) scouse crew coming over?

I know. I feel tres jealous. No holiday left this year unfortunately (not taking into account those already booked).

17 hours came from TC, but it would have taken him longer as they started in Burley north of leeds.

The plastic lot are flying out next Wednesday for a week.  The platinum crew fly out later in August.

Although judging by last nights board session, a certain one of them seemed keen to leave his tendons affixed to the board. Talk about dicing with death on the last minute before a trip Rich  ::)

I'd never had guessed that you were talking about Rich "what's a warm up?" Crouch.

Those yellow wooden toothpicks were feeling like ledges last night, 1 move 7b+ to the next hold?  ;)

It will be nice to meet others out there, but we are only a half scouse crew with the other 2 being Welsh/woolybacks   :wank:

By the sounds of things Nibs, this will be an international UKB meet. NWest and NWales vs rest of the Peak&rest of the world. No contest really. ;)

That's why I only use light pencil marks.  Dots in fact.

Jim.  I don't understand your logic here.  Surely the limiting factor to the amount of ink you bring back is how big your penis.  And from what people are saying round Gorton way, that's not very big at all.

Hi I'm driving down to Magic Wood tonight and wondered if any one could possibly write out the directions from the bloc heart guidebook or if anyone has a better choice of words to use on which junction to take off the motorway and where to head for. It would be massively appreciated. I did have the guidebook but left it on the roof of my car in all the excitement when I got to Chironico a few months ago!
Thanks.
Dan

From the guide:

Getting There:

- From Chur drive towards San Bernardino
- Shortly after Thusis, directly at the end of a tunnel (going uphill), take the exit Avers/Juf
- Turn left towards Avers/Juf (the best option is drive to village of Ausserferrera)
- One of the first buildings on the left hand side is the "Gasthof Edelweiss"
- From here drive back to the next two tunnels here and several passing areas (where it is possible to park)
- It is best to use the larger parking areas and walk a few metres (due to bus driver complaints)

Thanks so much. Thats really helpful. One last bit of information from any one if possible...Is there anywhere there you can buy either fuel for a trangia (old skool I know) or fuel for a screw top pocket rocket type stove? Thanks very much for any info. Dan
