Hard a quick play with my first Powerball last night; 10998 max rpm.
Hope to beat the 11k barrier when my wrists don't feel like jelly.....

Almost 11k is a pretty good first go!  Nice one.

That's more like it.

I'm not buying another for some time, steam on ahead I'll catch you up later.  I can't get within 500 of my old score w/ my fucked ball. There are so many vibes it feels like my hand is being broken when I go for it . . .

Are you a manual worker?  Or just big forearms?

I've got another stupid girl question, is there a difference between my Neon Pro (which glows blue and is not very noisy) and my neighbours 250Hz Pro (which doesn't glow but is louder) and apparantly has a 'screamer'?  Hers feels smoother than mine and I can get a marginally higher score on it, is that because it's a better / different ball or did I just use hers at a peak time and try harder cause there were two people watching me?

New PB is now 9503, I have another pinkie blister and a swollen tip on my ring finger for my efforts  8)

Ignore all but the 250 pro and 350 metal.

To answer your performance question I need some personal info so I can generate a profile.  As you are nodoubt  aware my methods are a little controversial amongst powerball types - but I think my results speak for themselves.

 8)

1 ~ Were you menstruating at the moment of peak performance, or were you in the company of others who were?

2 ~ What is your stone?  Moonstone, diamond, opal etc..

3 ~ When did you last drink the blood of a sacrificial black cockerel?

Lastly, but by no means least 4 ~ Are you (or have you ever been in a previous life)  Aquarious?

Be careful there, magpie.  First he'll give advice freely, but when you're sucked in you're in trouble  :o

But Houd's right, ignore the Screamers, Neons, Basic Models etc.  250Hz pro (ie with a counter) or 350Hz (Mmmmmm) are the truth.  Screamers and Neons are a little slower due to rotor weight etc.

So I might actually be better than I think I am since I am using an inferior ball?  I thought I had the 250Hz pro, clearly not, I'm going to need to buy one now aren't I?  >:(

I think we've decided the Screamers are around (roughly) 500rpm slower than the pro.  The Neon is probably less so, maybe 200rpm slower.  [Houd- correct me if I'm awry]

Since the PowerBall Pros are only 13 quid you can easily invest in another- keep the Neon for training and do proper runs on the Pro.

I have a neon, so I can assume that I should be able to do 200 rpm more, which means I should be able to go over 9700, maybe higher... I wish I had a screamer then I could beat 10000 for £13, well worth it...  ;D

On further investigation, what you are both telling me is that I paid 2 quid extra to knock a possible 300 rpm off my score  ???

That probably sums it up quite well.
Whilst some would argue that PowerBalls in general are a gimmick, the Neon and Screamers definitely are.

Ever wondered why there isn't a 350Hz Screamer or Neon available?   :-\

I don't understand the 350Hz one, why are they better?  I read a review and the man said it could nip you or suck your hand in when it was going fast  :o  I'm not paying £50 for some ball to try and eat my hand  >:(  Not unless it'll bump me up to 12,000+  8)

It's not better, just different.
The ball and the rotor are heavier (Pro is 262g all in, the 350 is 870g)- it's made of metal, hence the cost.  Therefore it's a lot harder to use and takes far more effort to get high speeds on.
Akis record on 250Hz= 16,553rpm
Akis record on 350Hz= 14,091rpm
Thus, training on the 350Hz is more effort, trains you harder and therefore improves your 250Hz performance.

And it's shiny

I'm not convinced about that even though at first glance it seems obvious. There's been a couple of studies of training with added weight for sports movements; one was done with a weighted baseball bat, and it was found that it had a negative effect on batting with a normal bat because of changes attributed to rate coding and other neural factors. With a powerball technique and speed of wrist movement are necessary to achieve the highest revs, so it could be that if you tune your performance on a 350hz your 250hz performance could suffer.
Or not.
Or maybe improve.

It is very shiny though.
And very, very smooth in action.

It has been established by the true wads of powerball ie 14k+ that using the 350 will dramatically improve your 250 times.

Should do too n'all; fucking thing weighs a ton.

Soon, I would like to see people post before and after PB sesh pics of their forarms.  The difference is obscene.

47 squid is most attractive.  Soon they'll be 40:  then I shall pounce like a coiled spring!

Just found out you can download the PowerBall speed confirmation software thingy here.  No installation needed, runs from the file.  Works with live capture and .wav files.

I hope this wasn't the research that persuaded people to stay away from weight belts, what was the hypothesis on that one? waving a heavier stick at a ball will make you hit it harder when you use a normally weighted one? surely people can foresee that this might create a bit of an issue in terms of timing? Now lets replace the stupid weighted bat with some resistance exercises that target the relevant muscle groups and it'll be an interesting study.

Way too simplistic an evaluation there Paul. It wasn't just one study, and the detrimental effects weren't to do with timing, they were to do with rate coding. There's been similar studies done on drag-running as well.

Then why are most of the posts on this thread from blokes?
