I hear these are good...

And you can probably get one without Luke Skywalker in situ.

Not sure Ellen would approve though, think they throw in the pr0n free and everything.  ;)

More interesting and 'Japanese' than your average hotel is a ryokan. They can have loads of character though you'd have to be prepared to sleep on a futon rather than a bed...

Isn't it self evident? I - the self, the ego; like - find pleasant/attractive, enjoy; croutons - small pieces of toasted or fried bread, served in soup or salads.

Yeah, stay in a ryokan.

Top tip of today:

Japan National Tourist Organization Tourist Information Center (they may have a webpage as well)

So if you're in Tokyo, need somewhere to sleep and refuse to pay by the hour at a sleazy love-hotel or stay in a bizarre capsule hotel (they don't accept female guests anyway) go to the Yurakucho- station, and get to »Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan« — just south of Rafael Vinoly's amazing building »Tokyo International Forum«. In a small room on the 10th floor there are a few Japanese ladies that, lo and behold!, speaks English (bizarre). The ladies ask in what area you want to stay and what prize range, then they call all ryokans that fit your criteria, one by one, until they find one.

For free.

Yeah, it pays to now what you get for how much. 10,000 Yen per night for two people in a room gets you a decent standard, but probably neither breakfast nor dinner, and perhaps not even access to an ofuro.

Yeah, I forgot: most ryokans (except the very large ones) have a curfew, usually around 11 o'clock.  So may not be so interesting if you want to enjoy Tokyo nightlife.

TOKYO HOTEL ~ Germany's latest crock heading Britside:

Because I like you, I've selected their most awful aural rape for your delectation:

They're busy re-recording all their German hit into Krautlish, easy now!  Cunt in red cap and nightie lives round the corner from me, can't wait to have a word  :furious:
