Have any of you had this? Apparently it's some embryonic tissue that shouldn't mormally be in the knee, but 20% of us are lucky enough to have it.

Well - mine's apparently the cause of pain in my knee when I bend it, and this plica also gets out of line sometimes causing the odd bit of additional pain.

How long before I'm climbing again? Has anyone had any successful rehab work done?

I assume you've had an MRI?  If it's enough of a problem with your plica impinging you can have it excised with arthrosopy.

Amongst other things knee related, growth on the tib/fib plateau, cartilage damage and all sorts of other shit, I had some of this too.

My recover was,

day 1, in a deckchair in the garden on happy pills,
day 2, on on the piss with the filth
day 3, leading

Basically if 'it' feels ok do it.

if there's a plica impinging in your knee yr ortho surgeon will see the scans and ty up yr symptoms to the plica - and take it out with a scope. usually day case... of wrk 2 weeks, activity at 4... full power at 6. details of all this should be confirmed with yr drs mind...

No scans done as yet, but the exercises recommended bythe physio aren't helping yet.

I'm seeing a friendly chiro about it soon - I reckon he'll be able to confirm/deny the plica-ness of the injury. If he does I'll go back tothe doctor and wave my BUPA card to get something done.

It's pissing me off as I've not really climbed all year due to injury, and this one looks like it could be write-off for the whole year. Wife seems pleased though.....

tubbs, just be aware that a lot of people have a plica that is not impinging and is not a cause of pain.  Some people will excise it anyway (and get an extra procedure fee on top of "diagnostic arthroscopy") and you won't be any better.  Wave your BUPA card near someone who specialises in knees.  Look into BASK.

My friendly chiro tells me it's not plica knee, but most likely a "horn" tear of the medial meniscus.

Well - that's the summer written off by the sound of things. How long before I'm climbing after the op???

Couple of weeks you should be able to do something.  Bit longer for full on hardcore bouldering.  Good luck.
