List Lovers of the World Unite
May 10, 2007, 01:24:44 pm
Little project I've been working on over the last couple of weeks...
http://www.eliteukbinventory.blogspot.com/

Basically the idea is to have a focal point for hard problems e.g. cataloged lists of nearly all hard problems (8a and above) in the UK (obviously some things are in sensitive areas and will be left off for obvious reasons) and a back catalogue of hard problem news and updates with links to the relevant sources. Not quite finished but getting there, any feedback on mistakes etc. spill the beans...

Why you ask? Just as a source of inspiration.

Thanks to Bonjoy and Pantontino for their input.

Nice work Greg. A great source of inspiration for beasts and punters alike.

To fill a blank - Quintessence FA:

Quote from: Andy Harris
1st ascent made by Pete Curtain, not Quent.

For a second I thought you were asking where the sit start to Brad pit was :wall:

Good work Greg

The SS to Brad pit was graded for including the daft dyno sequence to finish. The start bit is just a big reach. On top of TWs other grade howlers (No Mercy and Brad's Arete SS)I had no idea what grade it would be as a none eliminate so left it off the list.
Have never tried Pinch 2, but according to Ru's book the grade varies from 7c+-8a+(or something like that) according to sequence or who you ask. Again I had no idea so left it off.
I didn't put Quent down as the FA of Quintessence in the first place.

I new Bonjoy couldn't have made an error, so actually it's just:
Canine 8a (Almscliff) FA:?

Are full blown eliminates on the list? Pinch 2 exists in people's heads more than on the rock.

Going Down at Longridge should be in the NW section - it's the traverse, but done l-r without recourse to the top of the crag. Done by Neil Carson, it was given font 8a+, but it must be at least that I would have thought as it was also given route 8c+, which is more like 8b. Ask Ryan, he'll know.

looks like a good site, thought you'll probably find a lot of people arguing the toss about 7c+/8as a lot.

As a note, how about a column on the PDFs with just a tick in it to indicate whether the problem is an eliminate or not. At the moment it says "bohemian groove (eliminate), but doens't mention that other stuff like tsunami, ben's extension, staminaband-OOMT, and even stuff like jason's traverse, staminaband etc could technically be describeds as eliminates too. But theres also that whole vipers nest of what an eliminate, or whats just a tight line etc. i recon if we're going to label some problems as eliminates, we should be transparent with all - maybe then the value of natural problems can really be appreciated.

Looks like there are a few missing from the Yorkshire list. Searching for V11 on YG: http://www.yorkshiregrit.com/search.html?action=search&text=v11

At a glance

Banana Republic
Exocet
I Am Curious Yellow (is the same as curious yellow rh?)
Pebble Dash
Slim Shady
Sweet Dreams
Unnamed problem at Earl (is this vanishing point?)

At the risk of falling into nit picking about 7c+/8a like Dave said, Sweet Dreams, Bens Groove SS, Slim Shady and a few others are bit, erm, well I'm not going to say it. ;)

This is a bit off topic but saw on the lakes tick list a problem called final curtain at the stone. I am heading there this weekend what does this line do as i cant find it on the topo?

Cheers

Not sure bout others but i reckon sweet dreams and bens groove ss are definately worthy of being there!!

Final Curtain: Starts as per Grand Opera but at the crimpy slot break out diagonally left (instead of going straight up) and finish at the big jug directly above Picnic Sarcastic.

Yeah good point Dave, bit of hassle changing them in one foul swoop although could do this as they get updated. As you say though, one persons view of an eliminate is not someone else's, there's rules to improve a problem and then full on eliminates in my view?

Cool.

I'll leave it a day or two then add all the additions that come to light, so...

Roll up, Roll up!

Banana Republic: SS to banana split, prob not repeated yet, looks nails.
I Am Curious Yellow (is the same as curious yellow rh?): Funnily enough rh is the right hand finish. 7c+/8a for normal, so can't go on the list
Pebble Dash: big slab on side of calf, only just climbed, listed in routes guide as 'top roped at 7a'.

Nice work Greg
