Strange palm injury
May 10, 2007, 11:45:27 am
Went to font last week and climbed up until Friday, on the 2nd to last day (Thursday) I was pulling on a shallow 2 finger undercut and felt a sharp pain in the palm of my hand near the base of the ring and middle finger. Let go immediately and then rested it till the next day which seemed to have calmed it down and I taped the 2 fingers together for support on the Friday. Climbed Big Jim at Petit bois and felt it strain a bit again on a pocket when pulling through so I called it a day after that!

It's now a week since I strained the hand and I can't close it (If I try to close it fully it fkin hurts like hell right in the middle of my palm). I'm also getting sporadic pins and needles everyday in the tips of my ring, middle and index fingers on the same hand!

I have not pulled on anything all week and have been really careful about using the hand for anything (it feels a strain even lifting a cuppa). Have been giving it some hot & cold treatment as well as gentle exercise squeezing some putty that seems to ease it up for a short time before it gets bad again. I was going to do weights while it is impossible to climb, but it hurts to just grip the bar :(

I'm not sure whether all the ailments are purely from a strain, or possibly from a trapped nerve? (to explain the pins and needles)

If anyone has experienced similar and can offer some tips (or has the number of a decent specialist physio in the North West) it would be greatly appreciated!

Are you sure it's not a dupryen's contracture (or whatever it's called) . There was a discussion on here about them a while back, but I can't find it now? Mine is growing.
