Talented Youngsters
April 17, 2007, 11:05:04 pm
Hello

I was just wondering what peoples thoughts on the 'youth of today' are really - i.e. who are the emerging talents in uk rock climbing?  You tend hear a lot about kids comps but less of what they are doing outside

Shall we say under 20?  who are they, where are they from and what kind of stuff are they doing?  I recently went to font with a lad who did carnage 2nd go then aerodynamyte, with no warm up, after an 15 hour drive and 1 hour sleep!

 :great:

Theres that young Ned Feehally character. He is about 15, talented, strong and capable. Sadly, he is also ginger but you cant have everything.

Why the limit of 20? that means we cant include Pascal the rascal - undoubtedly one to watch. How old is he anyway? I heard he was 46.

I thought Ned was at Uni Dobbin?

You know you are old when police officers start to look young ;)

Maybe he's dead clever as well as dead good at climbing? A true polymath.

Is Ned a police officer as well? he must be one of those 'specials' then - he is at university (so when would he have time) and is just under 20. Don't know if he is dead clever or not to be honest. He is studying 'Prejudice in the climbing community against strong Ginger Mingers', but I havent seen any of his work.

Such a shame about that ginger barnet.

Ha Ha!

Thanks dobbin! I told them i didn't like getting my photo taken. I cried so much my eye fell out.

I am at uni, but sadly I am not dead cleaver, nor am I in the police.

Just bear this in mind bitches!:

If you have been bitten by a Ginger Kid immediately wash the wound with soap and water. If you have alcohol or peroxide apply it to the wound.

I see what you mean dobbin, that lad is sure to go far!   :-\  ;D

As far as any others go, everyone already knows about the likes of landman and pascal so i was trying to get the lowdown on unknown young beasts.  Any knowledge on jumping nutters is amusingly welcome too though!

Anyway, enough of this idle tittle tattle - last night I took the young ginger beef cake to Rubicon - show him a few tricks, and how we experienced indoor climbers get down, and what do you know - totally ignores all my sequences and busts out 2 8as!

Sterling efforts last night from the ginger one, who romped up Press low right (officially approved sequence), and Tsunami. Both dispatched in good style and earning him that sponsorship/team place (bah humbug). Effort youth.

Thanks guys.
Paul, i honestly didn't feel that strong when i spoke to you. Had a rubbish session at the wall the day before .
Dan, i did use the new beta. Seemed to help. You are easily strong enough, stop doing so many routes and get on it!!

Beta is to use the bottom of the LH gaston, rather than the top.

Was back again today with the Dobbinator. We were wise and got there early to get the most out of the cool temps.
The plan worked, as before long he had low right to the press in the bag ().
Simple. Good work beast.

It then warmed up and we fell off!

You keen for an evening session midweek Dan? I think g-man is.
