Paddy Ashdown gave me a lift when I was hitching to college once. He was driving a shagged out brown Escort with the stereo ripped out. And to make matters worse he didin't drive on the left, nor did he drive on the rightt, but, somewhere in the middle...
...that last bit is not true, he was a very safe driver.

John Dunne refused to be weighed when I was doing some uni project.

Pete Chadwick is a bit of a legend, he's been climbing at a good level for longer than most

Indeed he is and has and I hope my comments didn't sound too churlish, an off the cuff quip that probably sounded better in my head than on the page, certainly no slight intended on someone who I do think is a bit of legend

I briefly met John the "Vermin" Sherman in Font as he was staying at the same place as us and we left our beer for him.

Most unique climbing thing I've seen was probably watching Pat Littlejohn falling off due to loose rock, and landing upside down. At the time he was trying to convince a sceptical international meet of the rock quality.

Best climbing tick though, (the afore-mentioned being hit-on by Lynn Hill I am assured is not an unusual experience) was having Big Ron ask me for beta at the Plantation. Get in.

Bez once crossed a pub to tell me I should be a rock star  - made much funnier by the fact that all my mates were in bands and I was the tone-deaf one. I started to tell him how I had no musical ability and then remembered who I was talking to.

Celebrity-wise I think Cowboyhat could easily win this...

Obi-Wan is lost...

Diminutive Gritstone Legend only asked me if my friend was gay.  Which makes me a complete munter judging by the rest of the thread.

Went shopping for tights with Wolfgang Gullich.  He bought the red and white striped pair he wore in the photo of him soloing Weedkiller.

Whet shopping for funk LPs with John Allen.  He bought some Graham Central Station.

Had a non-violent difference of opinion about rap bolting with John Bachar.

Shagged by female Everest summiteer when this was quite a big deal.  Summiting Everest that is.

Ate scones with tc in Sheffield Uni refectory.

I have to watch Sandrine Levet get changed out her sweaty climbing keks every time she wins at Birmingham. Anti-doping rules means that I can't let her out of my sight. It's a job that has no end of volunteers but I couldn't trust others not to look away

Are you sure that wasn't a blowjob off a patissier who called himself Isabelle? (real name Claude le Pouf?)

You said it was my turn to do that!

On a similar vein (ahem) Sandrinne gave me a hug when she won the bouldering at Birmingham in 2001!

I was once sat in a pub in Manchester with my wife. She gets up from her seat and disappears off to the toilet, at which point Sean Ryder taps me on the shoulder and asks me if the vacant seat is taken.

Pathetic, I know.

On the Lynne Hill tip, one day in the early 90s when I was at Volx the aforementioned Gav Ellis fell off some 8a and had a proper tantrum, shouting at the top of his loud geordie voice: "Fuckin' 'ell, I'm climbin' like a fuckin' woman!!"

Lynne happened to be cruising up a neighbouring 7c+ at the time, and realising his gaffe, poor old Gav squirmed in the uncomfortable silence as he was slowly lowered to the deck.

(we all looked on sn**gering, of course)

Any Sean Ryder tick is a tick worth having, I reckon. Man is a genius.

Thought I would revive this topic with the news that I saw Andy Kirkpatrick on Pete's Eats today. Seemed to be tapping away at a laptop which was probably the best plan of action for the she-hite weather.
