campus board query
November 12, 2006, 03:19:49 pm
hey, me and my dad just finished building a campus board, see pics below, and kinda have a problem.  well not a big problem, just I find that when i'm using it there is an awful lots of pressure around the finger where the edge of the rung is, and it kinda hurts alot, which stops me doin it for v long. its not that strength is an issue, i can feel i have way more power left, just my fingers hurt too much.

I read somewhere on the web that having the rungs incut at all causes this, but our rungs are dead flat, if maybe a tad incut. do oyu think this is causing the problem? or do i need to round the edges off more? I just wondering cause it kinda limiting the use i can have on it, since it takes half a week for my fingers to stop hurting around where the edge of rungs were.

hope you can help, thnx

You just need to round off the edges of the rungs a lot more - way more than you would expect to have to in my experience. You should be able to use it day after day then!
This picture should give you an idea. Looks like a good board btw.

Yes, i agree with Woz- Just looking at those rungs made my eyes water. If you get a very rough file (rasp) and some decent sandpaper you will be able to get a nice rounded edge in no time.

Looks a nice little board, reminds me of my first campus board back in Birmingham. The good old days.

Why?

I think they look benchmark (for someone living in Colorado).

You needn't think you can do 1-5-9 there either Uncle.

Ps, It's a personal joke, im in no way criticising what looks a decent training aid.

I wouldn't set any rigid structure to it, just campus if you are feeling strong after warming up on that particular day. There isn't much point in campussing if you are feeling shitty (this is less important if you are doing power endurance stuff tho).
Don't just take my word for it though; there is loads of good stuff on the net as far as training goes. The Moon site has plenty on campus boards, and the Dave Macleod site has some links to the old Marius Morstad OTE articles which I always thought were quite good.

that campus board looks strange but very big, 14 rungs?  :o - isnt that the same height as the works' board? that thing is going to be good.
