D50 question for jim et al.
November 03, 2006, 08:55:30 am
word. got a D50 yesterday. all seems good, but..........

if by chance you are not out at the crag :(

put in memory card (jessops own brand), formatted it.
started snapping away, looked back at some pics on review.
switched off camera
switched back on, tried to snap again only to get "CHA" symbol come up (change memory, and on screen, "memory card can not be used").

this continues to happen so i have formatted it again, and again, and again, still happens.

whats going on???
do i need to go and bust some ass? problems with the camera or the card? was hoping to use it at the weekend!!!!!

Do you have a separate card reader?

Don't know if this is any help:

This might be more help actually:

Where are you off at weekend?

looks like it could be a problem associated with the brand of camera.
i might swap the card for a sandisk one as nikon recomend.

anyone with a D50, what cards do you use, are there any problems with them?

I use a kingston 1gig SD in my D50. never let me down.
I would never by Jessops own brand memory cards, for a start they are more expensive

I don't think the brands that Nikon don't specifically mention should necessarily cause problems. I use a Kingston compactflash one in my D70 and its great. On the other hand i wouldn't use anything with Jessops name on unless every other camera shop on the planet closed down. Jessops brand cards will just be some other cheap-ass brand rebadged. Probably like those Viking ones that go cheap on 7dayshop, me bird's dad had one of them and said it was always fucking up. Although he didn't use those exact words.

you aught to be able to get a good Kingston one off somewhere reputable like www.digitaldepot.co.uk for less than a  wack jessops shitpiece. stick with a brand that gives you a lifetime guarantee (lexar, sandisk, kingston) though you don't necessarily need to spend £££ on a high speed card with a camera like a D50 cos its got a decent size buffer. write speed only comes into it if you're filling up the buffer all the time.
