Thanks, I am putting some effort into the vests (probably more effort than I'm putting into the bouldering). I'm particularly proud of the red vest (£2 - Decathlon) and red beanie (£5 - TKMaxx) combo. Trousers are £10 Decathlon, I quite like them as they are light and loose and have a little chavvy stripe down the side. What else could I be busting out for a similar price of fuck all??

Good work on Clash Arete - waiting for the clocks top change and get down to Clashfucker for some shady evening action. Should tides, waves, free evenings, and grease free conditions align.

I was having a bad day and kept messing up the filming and the climbing, but here's what I salvaged

1st attempt at editing some footage so be kind.  I did this in iMovie and then exported to Quicktime before uploading to Vimeo which has reduced the quality massively.  What would be the best way to do this?  I've a copy of FCP so will be using that from now on.....

....oh and the video is me in the cave on a problem that I've not tried much etc etc (homage to Keith ;))

There's a few usefull pointers on Vimeo's help section

use the search function etc.

The Vimeo Overlords seem to think that all poor quality issues are due to not following their reccommended compression guides, so that's probably a good place to start

Dylan,

I noticed that your uploaded video is 960x540

I think Vimeo convert non-HD stuff to 640x360

that's half as many pixies

so that's half as may bags of Pixie QualityTM that they can carry between them

this means more log and less bling on the screen

What was the frame size of the original footage?

Was it HD that Steve Jobs has deliberately scaled down just to piss you off, or was it shot in standard def?

It was shot at HD on a HV30.  Must have been because I exported to quicktime and then uploaded.....

this is what you want

http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/12/08/exporting-with-quicktime-in-720p/

and maybe

http://blog.davidglover.org/2009/03/creating-hd-video-with-imovie-09.html

It was shot at HD on a HV30

So, shot at 1440x1080 and then ending up on 'tinterweb as 640x360

yes, I'd be a bit disappointed with that

If it's any use Dylan, I export in QuickTime as HD 720p, using h264.

I should start another thread about this.....but here is another copy from the original following the David Glover tutorial from Largers.....

I can't see any difference although it does look more blanched on the 1st 2 cuts for some reason.  Vimeo have also recognised it as HD.  Can other people see a difference?  I've got FCP on our other computer (but the hard drive is full of work shite) so that might be easier that dealing with this.

I can see the difference when playing it on Vimeo (not embedded), full screen with HD and scaling switched on, on a 24" 1080 monitor. With scaling off, the difference is (by definition) that one is bigger than the other and as everyone knows, bigger is better.

obviously I can't tell much difference on the embedded vid

try dicking about with contrast (up a little bit?), brightness (down a bit?) and colour to get a different (maybe better) picture.

What white balance did you have the camera on? It's always worth flicking through the white balance options to see what looks best at the time

I think your main problem is that you seem to have filmed in some sort of badly lit, grotty hole where someone, or some thing, has spunked chalk all over what looks a little bit like rock

nice music

Like it  :)

But you do know that that chalk writing at the bottom will wash away some time. Would it not be better to carve it with a hammer?

Mainly posting this because I am proud of the achievements of my missus.
Diane doesn't climb outside much and then prefers positive holds. This is probably the hardest thing that she has done outdoors, even though she only worked it for about 1.5 hours.

Over the last few months I've been developing a couple of areas at Laggan in the central Highlands.  Here's a wee vid of a west coast raider crushing a nice problem there.  Apologies for my inability to embed properly - what do I do to get rid of the http mumbo jumbo?
