Campus boarding
October 26, 2006, 11:02:35 am
I can do 1-4-6 fairly easily on the small rungs of the campus board but can't get anywhere near 1-4-7.  I was just wondering what the next logical progression from 1-4-6 is.  Is it 1-4-7 of is there a slightly easier sequence to move on to?

Is it your campus board? Can you add another rung and get solid on 1-4-6.5?

In my personal experience, campussing isn't really the best way to get better at campus moves. This might sound a bit stupid but if you leave it for a couple of months and work on the basic strengths involved (deadhangs and one armers) then you should come back and piss all over 1-4-7. I think the plateauing involved might be to do with the ultra short contact time, but this needs some science to back it up.

edit: If your elbows can handle it then always drop back down to the starting rung to get better lock-off strength etc.

This is right, but in my experience you elbows can handle it, until suddenly they can't. The resulting lay off negating the extra training effect.

I find 1 3 7 a lot easier than 1 4 6 so I don't think that is the logical progression from this.  I cannot conceive of doing 1 4 7.  My elbows and campussing make uneasy bedfellows at the moment.

Shit, I've been merrily bouncing down to rung one for years, but you've got me worried now. Maybe I'll give that a miss next time

First you need to find out where the weakness is occuring..........fingers or arms.

Can you cover the same distance on larger rungs? or even on a Bachar ladder

If no then you need to build some arms strength

If yes then you need to build some finger strenth

I think this has been covered in a similar topic before...................

Wouldn't worry too much, but at the first twinge, stop. Don't hope it goes away. Having said that, my resulting lay off lasted about 2 weeks from climbing and a couple of months from campussing so no real loss.
