late night Radio 2 tragedy
October 23, 2006, 10:56:42 pm
Mark Radcliffe has gone on holiday, so who do you think they get in as a stand in?

Claudia Winkleman!!!

Words fail me. I lasted about 10 minutes before the banality became unbearable. Is nothing sacred?

My girlfriends mum went out with Mark Radcliffe for a year and a half many moons ago.

Cowboyhat and I had decided he was gay, perhaps this was back when he was in denial.

It all made a lot of sense at the time... plus he did say on air that when he'd visited sheff he'd had a great night out in The Cossack.

are you a gay-finder general brown?

a shilling per gay found?

stripping young suspects down looking for incriminating body marks?

pricking them to find areas of sensitivity? eh?

Quote
"What's this here about us got to give you faggots?"
"Oh, we have to have them. We burn them."
"Say what?"
"We burn them."
"Right on!"

You must be right - once a straight man walks through the doors of a gay pub, they change for ever.

After building a stadium in Manc one year myself and the lads went to a bar in Canal Street for beer, cock, and studs in tank-tops.

One of the lads was nicknamed Jaffa.  He wiggled on his stool all evening (aching for a number two) but was so paranoid of getting bummed in the lavatory by a herd of love-hungry stud-muffins he kept it in all night!   Some people, eh?

Hmmm...

A great night out in this:

or this:

Difficult choice...  I'm wavering on a knife-edge, me.

Matthew Hopkins, gay-finder general

sounds like your methods are as accurate as those employed by Hopkins et al  ;)

Well it's a blessing in disguise. Now you can tune in to Radio 3 for the best programme on the wireless - Late Junction.

Jeez, can someone show me where I implied being gay was a problem? I'm pretty sure he has kids anyway... not that that means he isn't gay of course (joke ffs)

Sorry to drag this back on topic, but Grimer you perhaps over estimate my levels of cultural sophistication (actually it is starting to grow on me, maybe I'll give it a listen tonight).

Here it is with a 'listen again' option for anybody curious as to what you're missing:

Anybody else got any radio show recs?

Yes, it is tedious - not just on this topic but on others too. I know it's only joking, but it's all a bit like being back at school.

I'm listening to the Late Junction tonight and I must admit I'm quite taken with it. It makes me feel like I'm on holiday in another country and the presenter is very understated (which is good), and I've enjoyed just about all the tracks so far, bar one piece of jazz noodling bollocks.

So thanks, Grimer, you old culture vulture you.

Never heard of the late junction, but shall head on over now. Womens hour on radio 4 can be incredible at times. That whole station is a joy to behold apart from irritating plays.

Radio 3 is pretty awesome for many types of music (not just classical) and without old Peely I'd take it over Radio 1.  I don't get Radio 2.  Yes yes I know Terry Wogan can be funny at times, it's just...  just... GArrRr!  Impending middle-aged doom.

Shit, they've just played a track I recognise by Nic Jones (check out Penguin Eggs if you're curious who he is). Maybe I'm more cultured than I thought. 8)

Daytime radio 2 is pretty nauseating, but there is usually some good stuff on in the evenings. Check out any of Mark Lamarr's shows, Bob Harris, Stuart Maconie and of course the aforementioned Mr Radcliffe.

This Late Junction mullarkey is rather selecta I have to say.

On a related note. Don't you love the ridiculously long pauses that Radio 3 leave between the end of a classical piece finishing until a withering effort of a chap wispers what you've just heard?

Ay up Simon glad you enjoyed it. Just caught the tail end of it there tonight. I reckon it's the show I've heard on the radio that's most out there. Glad it was good because I was very disappointed by Naked Gun 33 1/3 The Final Insult.
