Watched Gran Torino last night. Was disapointed with most of it, slow build up, but for some reason the last half makes it worthwhile. Great acting from Clint. 3.5

Also, Pride And Glory. Typical dirty cop story, not exceptional, but mediocre. Gets better again as film goes on. Another 3.5.

Most of the new films coming out now are a bit dissapointing.

Indeed, the only decent movies to be watched nowadays appear on this list:

Robertostallioni will second this

Far be it from me to wish the demise of a hollywood great, but if he OD's soon we'll get Universal soldier et al on ITV....(Personally I hope Clint goes next though.(I love Pale Rider)).

That cyborg montage is groin-grabbingly awesome.

I want them to show desert heat. I seem to remember he dies at the beginning and gets brought back to life by a red indian giving him a foot massage using tequila as lube.... fecking WEIRD!  :-\

Vicky Cristina Barcelona involves a lesbian kiss between Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson. What more do you need to know?

Alpha Dog - Not bad acting from Timberlake, Good film, but its no Tarrantino! 4/5
I just saw this tonight - good film imho. Trousersnake is pretty good too. Seems to follow the true story pretty closely.

Although you can see the grimness approaching on the horizon from the start, up until that point the film is a lot of fun with fast paced black-humour, fight-scenes and hawt ladies.

Treated myself to a bong, and the Watchmen last night, and once I got over the initial, skunk induced, foyer paranoia, I settled down to watch something that left me feeling, err, confused..

After waiting years for this film, I knew it wouldn't live up to expectations, I was just suprised at the parts that let me down.

The story sticks pretty close to the original, including some very dark parts I never thought would be in the film, Snyder is obviously a real fan of the original, and must've fought hard for some sections to be in. The ending is diifferent, but only in execution, but that only left me wondering why they didn't just keep the original.

The film outlines the moral choices superhero's would have to make, but doesn't ram them down your throat like the Dark Knight, which is to be applauded, but probably explains why a lot of people walked out last night. Unfortunately the cast, and the script aren't always up to this, and it does descend into moments of high campness. The exception to this is the excellent Jackie Earle Haley who is Rorschach.

The film is mightily violent though, and this feels like the result of focus testing too many sniveling American teenagers, it often descends into Saw like gore pr0n, and doesn't really benefit from it.

So one for the fanboys, and the DVD release looks excellent. But I can't help but feel some people will view it as a steaming pile of shit, and they may not be far wrong.

Hope this helps.

I'm worried about being let down by Watchmen too.

Interesting review Zod. I never read the comic but like the idea of the film (dark action hero style). Too much gore is a bit off-putting tho, I'm a big (small) softy. Unless it's OTT Brain-Dead-style nonsense.

There's a guy dressed as a moth, he looks like a tit. And there's an owl. No tits or other garden birds though.

There's a pr0n-a-rific slow mo sex scene, in fact there's so much slow-mo, without it the film could have been an hour shorter. It's worth checking out, like I said before tho, it's a shame theirs so many bits you wouldn't expect in their, tho the fact that Snyder seems to have copied the comic, rather than 'interpreting' it will probably rankle some. You will be disappointed if your a fan, but it's probably the best film version of a Alan Moore comic, tho that's not really saying much.

This girl has a very pleasing set of teets. However they've the omnipresent gently swaying schlong of Dr Manhattan to contend with.

Just in case anyone needed clarity...

Just watched Watchmen, highly rated it, probably a little long, but the opening credits alone were more entertaining than the whole of 'Dark Knight'. Knew nothing about the books but liked the story, more complex than your usual comic. One of the most surprising things was the sound track. Awesome.

[edit: Oh yeah, and you briefly get to see those beauties unleashed.  ;D ]

holy shit i have just finished watching "13 (Tzameti)"

by Gela Babluani. it has left my mind shattered, it is the most brutal mind fuck i have seen, makes requiem for a dream look like bambi. one scene of it had me in tatters, edge of seat, nerves in bits.
amazing, i would recomend it highly, brilliantly shot.

(oh yeah, its in french)

anyone else seen this?

Watched this last weekend and highly recommend it. Only chose it as a whim, purely based on ratings on lovefilm.com, and a good call it turned out to be.

Gone old school this week, got the original Seven Samurai to watch. Decided that there aren't enough new good films to watch, so gonna be going through some all time classics that always appear in the top 100 lists.

The Escapist. I saw it so you don't have to. Just goes to show having a 'gritty' cast and tempting rear cover is not related to quality. A prison breakout drama directed through, I can only imagine, the eyes of Andrew Lloyd Webber - theatrical bollocks- modern scum it is not. If you see it in the video library, punch yourself squarely in the balls for some direct Pavlovian conditioning. Its for the best. The mrs quite liked it though. Says it all.

Too late! I endured this last weekend, and share your sentiments, so much so that I would have prefered to watch Comic Relief that I was trying to avoid!
