the bourne ultimatum....

it's bloody good, and certainly knocks bond into a cocked hat.

it's got everything - moroccan rooftop jumping, waterloo station, a man from the guardian, lots of guns, a wide variety of car and motorbike chases, joan allen (again), sinister psychotic assassins, even some audis. the shaky camera work might annoy some people, but i rather like it.

A Cock and Bull Story.  Definitely ticked the box: worth watching when on Telly (like last night), and then some.  I now harbour no ambitions whatsoever to read the book behind the film at all.

I wanted to see Transformers this weekend, it looks pretty cool in the trailers. But the bird didn't want to so we watched Harry Potter instead. Was okay. Think Transformers will be better.

Went on my own last night. Verdict: Very mildly entertaining nonsense.

If the books are anythnig to go by, there is still the Legacy, Betrayal and Strategy to go (not sure what order). Apparently more films are in the pipeline.

I really enjoyed bourne ultimatum.

i concur - saw it last night, very entertaining. apparently during the fight scene with 'the asset' (nice phrase) i was squeezing the wife's hand with every blow. reminded me of the horrendously claustrophobic fight scene in saving private ryan. i was totally engrossed!

bring on the 4th. this is bond for the 21st century.

Bourne ultimatum was very good.

Can't wait for the fourth one when he stops worrying about his past and concentrates on spiritual matters, eventually opening an evangelical christian sect somewhere in somerset. Bourne Again (ahem.)

Glad to hear Bourne Ultimatum getting neat reviews; the 2nd pissed me off to the hilt - it was so poor compared to the 1st.  And no Frau Potenta!?  Were they mad?

holy shit i have just finished watching "13 (Tzameti)"

by Gela Babluani. it has left my mind shattered, it is the most brutal mind fuck i have seen, makes requiem for a dream look like bambi. one scene of it had me in tatters, edge of seat, nerves in bits.
amazing, i would recomend it highly, brilliantly shot.

(oh yeah, its in french)

anyone else seen this?

Saw the trailer for it ages ago, need to borrow it off a mate who has it. Looks brutal.

On a considerably lighter note, Surf's Up is great fun.

I kept trying to persuade my (now ex, coincidental?) girlfriend to go and see Surf's Up, because it looks great! Penguins surfing, Pixar must be on drugs...

Don't know if they've been said already but two I've seen recently, which are both awesome are "Factory Girl", and "This is England"

The latter was totally unexpected.

"this is england"

we now own the entire shane medows back catalogue, ive not seen one by him that i didnt like! "dead mens shoes" is great, as is "a room for romeo brass". good to see that someone is producing films of this quality in the UK. they were all a 5'er on play.com...plus you can play spot bits of sheffield and the peak in his films.

Agree that "This Is England" is a must-see.  Particularly edifying for anyone with an 80s childhood and dim memories of ska, sweet cigarettes, skinheads, and "Goose Green" being a byword for trauma.  "Dead Man's Shoes" and "24/7" are also very good.  Be prepared to be disappointed by "Once Upon A Time In The Midlands" though.  It's a slightly crap black-comedy with characters just a bit too pathetic to care about; one of whose films where the whimsy and seriousness never quite gel.

Just seen "Zodiac" which was also very good: gripping throughout its length, despite being based on a famously unsolved case.  Fantastically evocative late60s/70s setting and a "serious" feel you don't often find in films these days (reminiscent of "All the President's Men" or "The Parallax View" etc).
