Banksy.

This is on Newman St. W1. The characters are to scale - the type is very big indeed. Makes me smile every day.

I was ogling posters & considering attending an anti-CCTV camera demo in Hamburg just this morning.

(Made of mine made hundreds of thousands of pounds profit by getting the council contract to install CCTV all over N. Wales.  Another mate of mine took over the firm when founder got tired (& too wealthy to need it any more).  Dare say he'll do famously too.)

I have a theory:  because Germany lost & fascism ist absolut verboten, it has allowed fascism (in the guise of something different) to flourish unchecked in the USA and the UK.  Inexorably your rights are being revoked, bit-by-bit.

I like what they've done with these tiles on the wall down the side of the fire station.

The pictures are from The Sheffield Star, so they might not be of actual events.... anywhere... ever

Just noticed this about some Banksy work in Bristol.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/bristol/8114184.stm

Popped into the Banksy exhibition last week when we were in Bristol seeing old Uni mates. The most interesting thing was the variety of people queueing to get in.

#264 Favourite Graffiti..

Theres all sorts of splash on the BBC today about the worth of graffiti (as people in Brissle are voting on whether to get rid of some classics or not) and this made me think about what classic, favourite works of graffiti are out there... I'll kick this off with the rather obscure 'Elvis rock' which will be known to all people who have been associated with Aberystwyth.... (story in the link)

Some already here

Some things I've spotted and liked enough to snap a picture of...

Near The Octagon, Sheffield

On a footpath in Perth (Australia!)

Banksy in Liverpool

Somewhere in Liverpool

Somewhere else in Liverpool

Yet somewhere else in Liverpool

Sgt Pepper Spray (again somewhere in Liverpool)

These are all in a WWII Ammunition store outside of Llanberis

On the way up to Whitby Abbey I clocked this...

No Bombs Please (in Dublin!)

I dislike the attention that goes with his work, and how it's seemingly so commercialised now - but I find much of it very clever. I am artistically useless but I enjoy the way he pokes fun at people, situations and life. I bought a book of his pictures (Wall and Peace) as a present a while back, and got another copy for myself.. some of his work is wank, but some is very clever... often the simplest is the best, I like a simple small stencil of 'official graffiti zone' on a plain white wall in Bristol, or the small 'this is not a photo opportunity' of which there are quite a few around London..

Of course, now he's selling his work, big exhibitions etc... then I guess its all in danger of disappearing up its own arsehole... but such is life..

By no means. Popped into his exhibition at a gallery on Mount Street, Mayfair. Just up from Douggie Hayward and opposite Purdey the gunsmith.

Does that make him a cunt? No but that crap on a wall just round the corner from me that someone has scrawled 'Boring' across it, does.
