peugeot 306 spares/repair Help
February 05, 2006, 04:41:49 pm
Unfortunately someone decided to break into my car and they have broken the drivers side door lock, and left a gash in the door. Consensus from a couple of bodyshops is that I need a new door and obviously a new lock. However, this is going to cost circa. £600 which I don't have. Does anyone know of any peugeot breakers where I might be able to get a white door on the cheap and how hard can it be to fit a door?

Obviously i'm inept when it comes to cars, but I know you lot aren't, and that quite a few people drive 306's.

Any help is grandly appreciated.

Try Pugsparez, chuffin' near Stockport or Ashton area, or is it Pugbitz? I think they may have webspace, otherwise buy an Auto Mart and look in the ads in the back, loads of specialists in that breed of car.

unfortunaly mine is a 1999. Thanks though!

Jim, I'll send you an email with my car details, or we can go when I come over that way. I'm sure fitting can't be that difficult! So far I've found a new door for £70 online though, but then I don't know how much it will cost to get it painted to match. Don't want it to look pikey.

Worth checking with a garage what the exact difference is coz '93 and '99 are the same bodyshape.

The model ran from '93 to '01 so you might be in luck if it was only cosmetic changes that were different. Things like mirrors, etc are interchangeable for all years.

If you go to markets you can buy spray paint especially for cars with the specifications on the lid so u can get the perfect colour and paint the door yourself.

I agree with Jim. Don't be tempted to paint it yourself, I made this mistake with replacing a rusty rear door on an old Polo. If you try to save money by doing it yourself, once you've got undercoat, two or three cans of colour, plus laquer you'll spend more than it if you pay to get it done professionally. And it'll will look shit. Painting large areas is well hard, and virtually impossible to do well with aerosols.  Find a breakers yard to get your door and ask if they know a spray shop. If they are dodgy enough   most will know someone who'll do a reasonable job on the cheap.  Don't bother hunting around for a perfect white match, its unlikely a white one won't need some retouching, or  might not match anyway.

Fitting doors is simple unless you have central locking/electric mirrors/windows etc even then its fiddly rather than difficult. It's probably a two person job, cos you dont wanna damage the brand new paint job by dropping your door.
