This is a really good DVD i agree an its got some good original tunes in it made especially for AQUAMARINE i would recommend it to any one even if your not from Wales. Paul Higginson Rules an so does Llanfair P.G's very own Beastie boy HUW.

I think this is the best climbing film I've seen.

I'd say Paul has adopted a good approach to film-making from the off.  He spent a lot of money on the best camera he could afford, and only shot on sunny days; even at Porth, that's not always easy.

It's a lush film, very evocative.  The old pix are remarkable: they take you straight back because you've already been there yourself - amongst the rocks - wrestling with an ancient axle.  

(And what a good look @ Talfarach you get.  This place is mad, so scattered with unobvious problems.  Not a big place yet so many little spots to explore.)

The pace of the film is soothing and at times it's quirky, but never excessively so.  The sounds are always appropriate to what you are watching.  I'm tired of good copy being ruined by black metal or über-fierce techno soundtracks.

This film is a brilliant opener which deserves to be bought and not ripped.

What's that film where Tom DeGay (I think) falls and audibly breaks his pelvis?  I remember my head being pounded by that one.  I love techno.  But imo it's not always appropriate for rock action.  

And Heavy rock too.  Black metal or grindcore or speedthrash or whatever you wanna call it, it all amounts to the same thing:  guitars ie those played by people with Mordred t-shirts shouldn't get on climbng vids.  It cheesifies it.  You must have seen this kind of guff.

I'm too lazy to actually find specific examples as I watch vids round other people homes.  Or the ever circulating world of ramdom shit one finds on the net, it's out there.

I just had this random thought of some yound kid from the States coming over and making a film of him on Crescent Arete and setting it to a Slayer soundtrack.  Perfect.

Which is beside the point.  I thought that the sounds on this film in particular are matched well with what you are looking at.

Yeah, I was just wondering - I do agree though, often videos don't have appropriate soundtrack to the action. Snowboard videos have been guilty of this for years, though some of them are better now.

I don't think I've ever heard any Death Metal on a climbing/bouldering vid.  Mind you , saying that, I think I'd quite enjoy it. Can you imagine Joe Brown soloing Cenopath Corner to Death Angel's 'Frolic Through The Park'?  You'd be that psyched you'd probably bail yourself off from the top.  Surf that crowd, Mr Brown, surf it... :twisted:

I think climbing works best with trippy or other weirdass music.

I guess it's all a matter of personal choice: I  enjoyed watching the Dan Osman tribute on masters of Stone V with Unforgiven II by Metalicca playing in the background, but i also rate the use of Doyen D on the N. Wales section of Stick It as best soundtrack tune ever...

Nobody broke anybodys pelvis audibly or otherwise as far as I am aware. However I don't dispute the 'specialist' nature of some of Dans music choices, static scratchy death being the stand-out controversial choice for me...

lets not forget at this point in time to mention a few real thing scenes. Whilst showcasing some mighty talent, I rewatched the real thing after 6 years and almost vomited at Ben and Jerrys club scene. And actually at the start for that matter! Those two sexy hunks twatting panels half naked in a freezing cold sheffield garage....takes me back to that gem of years 1996.

Just been enjoying watching Aquamarine for the umpteenth time and still can't work out what the problem featured at 04:22 is? Can anyone shed light on this? I'm assuming its in the Solace Arete area?
