Hi everyone - we're back!!!

Ok, here's what occurred.

The ukcaving.com forums were hacked using a security hole in a slightly out of date phpBB version.

Because of this, I guessed the hacker would have a pop at this board. They did but only managed to delete the contents of one forum because luckily I'd taken the site down before they gained access.

I took a full forum backup on Sunday 28th and have restored the forum to that date.

The good news is that the forum will now run much faster again - the previous version had lots of bloat and was a bit shitty to be honest.

The bad news is that the following will need to be sorted:
- RSS
- General Look and Feel
- Integration with the gallery will need to be restored.
- The post dates have all gone weird, but not much I can do about that one I'm afraid - all posts are there, but the order has been screwed.
- The search and PM systems are probably badly affected.

All this will be sorted out as and when I get time.

Sorry about the disruption and I hope that was the last of it for the time being.

As my old bookmark for UKB was the link for the portal page it no longer works. I dare say this might be true for quite a few other users, therefore they may not be aware that the site is back up and running. Is it possible to redirect from the old portal link to the new forum link?

Also at the moment recent threads are not appearing at the top, or is that adjustable somewhere?

I'll sort the portal thingy and the gallery will be down for a while until I re-instate the code that links the forum and gallery logins together...

I'm so happy the forum is running fast again - I think the previous version had some serious coding issues.

good work to bubba for keeping the downtime to a minimum in the face of soem sad hacking muthafukka.

The only thing i really miss from the other version of the forum software is that quick reply pane at the bottom of each thread.

Is what we have now back to the old version then like we had before, or is it an even newer version?

I'll look at re-installing some of the essential mods in a while - eg quick reply/attachments/mouseover topic preview/etc

Yeah its nice the forum is back online and running quickly again. I remember when I first joined the forum was super fast but then slowed down as the board got upgraded and there were more posts. The hacker seems to have got other phpBB boards too.

is board time set wrong? I have updated myself, but I wondered if if its reset us all to GMT instead of GMT+1

Don't worry, I doubt it's the final thing - I'll probably do a custom theme to fit in with the rest of the site content when it's added back in. This is just a stop-gap to get away from the blando standard theme.

BTW, if anyone can do me a better composite image for the top of the page (same size or wider) then I'd be most appreciative. I never been able to do good composites....

It is something to do with javascript coz if you turn of JS in IE, it stops happening - will look into it...
