Looking for places to visit up North
August 08, 2005, 06:39:51 pm
I haven't been home for a while now but I hope to be back for about a month around March and I'm looking for somewhere to pull the shoes on.

I'm going to be based in Liverpool and plan to spend some time in N. Wales. What I'm trying to get is some ideas about other areas that aren't too hard to get to as I may not have access to a car. I'd love to have a crack at some gritstone. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

North Wales you could do by getting the train to Bangor and then a bus to the pass. For the grit you can get a train to Hathersage and then walk/hitch to the Plantation.

if your based in Liverpool check out www.awesomewalls.co.uk -  its a beast.

come down mondays, wednesdays or fridays nights when most people boulder. North Wales is excellent, Parisellas if you like it steep and dirty and LLanberis, a bit further away. Locally we have Pex Hill, about 20 mins out of the city centre which is vertical sandstone. Im sure if you hang around long enough someone will bum you a ride to the grit!

will you be in uni there?

what is pex actually like ?

i really love sandstone but i also find vertical climbing a bit bland !

i am fully aware that some people rave about it , so i suppose it must have a certain charm

is it worth doing a trip up that way just for it ?

I don't really think its worth travelling a long way to climb there but if you in the area then its worth a shot. Check out Eastern Grit (i think) its in there.

Thanks for all of the pointers...Now all I have to is make the trip happen & get fit (recently trashed a hand & have only been able to play thrice in the last 10 weeks) !!

When did Awsesome Wall go up? I'm pretty sure it wasn't there last time I was home !!

Thanks for the offer, I may just take you up !

its not too bad, but not worth driving all that way for. I prefer the breck anyhow

is the Breck that one with graffitti on?

Pex is a cool place to hang out but not somewhere you would drive through the peak to go to. By that I mean, go, but when you know better you won't.
