Italian Bouldering
July 29, 2005, 02:07:14 pm
Found a few sites with lots of topos

http://www.infoboulder.com/_index.php?mod=boulders

http://www.climb.valtellina.net

And this one seems the best:

http://www.boulder.it/ita/topos.asp

But heck, I'm so confused. I can't find half of the places when I look at the map, and all this translated text is driving me craaaaazy.

Does anyone know what places are in the alps and worth a trip from Austria/Switzerland to include?

referring to bouldering.it everyplace in vicinity to the alps is labelled nord.
the red letters indicate the county:
SO = around Sondrio, valtellina; this is basically the big EW-Valley between lago di como and alto adige/Trento (which is TN). there are the areas described in clim.valtellina (Val masino, val di mello etc.)
VB = around Verbano-Cusio-Ossola; mainly the valley n' of lago di como; good to reach from cresciano/magic wood.
then there's CN (Cueno) and TO (Torino), these areas are more off to the south and west; better to combine with some french alps.
they show also some areas in TN and BZ which correponds with the areas in the Dolomites (BZ; Bolzano) and the Brenta (Lago di Garda).
most of the locations can be found with these route planning web things.

val di mello/val masino is really nice and after 2 (3?) events of melloblocco there should be enough to do: maybe in august the place is crowded (holiday time in italy)...but that may be likely for the whole alps ;-)
good bouldering in alto adige (except for passo di sella...)
some areas in VB (monte, foppiano) and that cimaganda look promising (though i haven't been there).

Cheers, that's helpful.

Found a small map which shows where the Val di mello is:

-To get topos and a lot of other infos, pop in Bar Monica in San Martino ( +39 0342641130) that is run by Simone Pedeferri & wife. He draw a topo of the boulders and can provide you all the necessary infos about the valley (trad - sport climbing and bouldering). The bar seems to be closed on Wednesday.
-If I'm not wrong, in the bar there even s an internet point!
-I San Martino and before there are a couple of campings, no worries then! In S.Martino you can even find a climbing shop!
