on t'way home from limestone yesteraday we stopped for an icecream at B.north, wanted to finish off with some soloing, but the rozzers weren't letting anyone on the crag cos apparently an unexploded bomb   had been found somewhere down in the trees near long tall sally etc. There were 2 riot vans, a few pandas and the huey was out. Just wondering if anyone knows what happened in the end, if it really was a bomb, etc etc?

An unexploded bomb at Burbage? presumably a ww2 bomb - and in which case, why had noone found it before - it being one of the busiest areas in the Peak. Bizarre!

Thats hexactly what i thought. Maybe someone was digging deep prospecting for new problems. Wonder if thay got the EOD team out for it, or just chucked rocks at it till it went BOOOM.

On the subject of digging for new rock, wouldn't it be cool if in a few years time when all the problems at the popular crags had been done someone went round flipping all the boulders! loads of new stuff to go at!

lets just dig a new quarry somewhere. Or dig up the hill below froggatt, then wash it down.

Or how about re-quarrying Horseshoe, and this time making a proper crag out of it.

i read somewhere that the grit edges extend below ground for up to 1km. with a bit of digging and cleaning we could make the routes on stanage up to 30 pitches or so. cool.

Yeah, but I bet there's gonna be quite a few boulders hidden away underneath too - I might start digging out that little edge in front of Stanage - couple of JCBs would sort it no trouble.
