Tendonitis avoidance (maybe)
August 18, 2023, 11:44:39 am
Hello,
recently I've got (wrist) tendonitis due to bouldering. It took me 3 months to recover. I fixed it only with complete resting. I would like to restart climbing and, of course, avoid such injury again because it is not the first time I got tendonitis in last 5 years due to climbing/bouldering.
How to reduce the risk and/or get stronger?
regards,
R.

My experience with various injuries is that doing whatever rehab style exercises that will help with it continually long after the injury has stopped is your best bet. Maybe incorporating them into your warm up routine would work.

In my experience, tendons complain because they are not strong enough to cope with the load they are subjected to and/or have insufficient rest between loads to recover fully. So not having pain and being strong enough to cope with climbing normally may not be quite the same.

I’d get a physio to diagnose and give strengthening exercises and then, like dexter says, keep doing them.
