Nicked gear?
April 24, 2023, 08:36:00 pm
This popped up on the Sheffield Climbing Facebook group..

Is it just me or does it smack of not being totally legit..

Looks scarcely used. Unlikely a full set would have been stolen from a shop. Plausible that someone got overseen buying everything then deciding it easy from them. FB profile looks legit.

Pretty odd. He says in the comments that the cams and ropes aren't used - but none of it looks used, nuts look completely spotless.

I wouldn't have guessed nicked, but certainly would treat it cautiously.

My first thought is just how people love spending money on shiny new things and don’t think about whether they need it or not.

Symptomatic of the highly materialistic culture we live in more than stolen to me…

That bloke’s got old profile pictures where he’s on summits in the alps or similar so seems more legit than many of the sellers you see on Facebook “for sale” groups. Not unusual to see people with (for example) three GriGris with the tags still on them for sale. I remember someone enquiring why one such seller had their location listed as New York and a number of their happy customers quickly vouched for them. Not sure if they were just being naïve or just happy to buy stuff that had obviously been shoplifted.

Yeah. Fair do's.  Perhaps too quick to judge.   :spank:

I did scroll his face book profile and thought it was a bit odd though.

I'm just amazed when people post ads like that (that clearly will arouse some suspicion) with no attempt at some form of explanation...

In one of the first replies he says he is selling because he has injured both his heels.

Albeit - one of the first replies that was a bit of a poke to test veracity  :jab:
