They're called Parhelion's (or more commonly Sun Dogs) and are caused by crystals of ice in the air.

Good snap, its not often people have cameras to hand when they see them.  I saw one from Stanage earlier this year..

cheers guys good knowledge. ive seen single ones before but never noticed a double one. Its just a pitty im in work and have a pub roof in the pic, hoping there might be one tmoz when im out, but i doubt it.
