4000/1 = 4000 seconds = over an hour. it was probably a bit quicker than this.

Looks like a goodnight was had there Eddies

This is a picture a friend took over three seasons from the same spot at Chatsworth, obviously its required some 'shopping but I think its done really well, its a shame it wasn't a clear day on the two where the sky is included

There is a website which does this for you from up to hundreedds of photos from different people with im afraid rather better results.  It stitches them together and allows you to explore the environment created from different angles and different distances.  The obama inauguration(sp?) ceremony is a good example.

I liked the fact that he'd bothered to go out to the same point at three different times in the year and done the manipulation (crop and aligning of horizon, trees and river) "by hand" himself.

I use Hugin to generate my panoramas with varying degrees of success.

Interesting that the above can take pictures taken from different points and meld them together though.

A selection from the torygraph.

Gonna hurt!

I think hes alright and has jumped over the back.  Can't see a track on the face of the wave though.  I just can't see how he'd have got right up there on the take off.

Reckon he he has come in from the right and smacked the lip to get over the back and avoid the closeout.

I do it all the time. (in my dreams)

Hope that's a photographer in the front. Looks like someone with an inflatable beach toy.

Defo in from the right, you can see the foam track under the lip about to be inverted and spray from the turn that projected him up the lip still suspended in the air.  Just shows how fast proper chunky barreling waves are.....

Clocked this and thought it was quite cool, some sort of acrobatic display in a big plastic bubble pictured at the Latitude Festival....

It's really bizarre. I like it a lot though. I've tried to recreate the effect but have failed miserably. I imagine it could work quite well with climbing shots.
