I'd say its considerably more annoying. I've never seen a constructive comment, its just like a parade of sycophants, whereas all you get on crackbook is a couple of jibes from your mates.

Yeah, I avoid such groups like the plague and tend to delete comments that just post awards/pictures.

One of the things I really like about Flickr is how "clean" it is.  White background, with pictures and text, thats all you need.

yeah, luckily I don't get invited to that many flickr awards - and I hate those post 1 comment on 10 pics groups (tho, I do add my pics into 1 - but  only comment when I feel the need!)

Thought of this post when I installed this nice Flickr On Black Greasemonkey script.

Adds a handy "View on black" menu item down below the Exif data, etc.

Sometimes a black background just looks much better.

The clouds are awesome, shame they aren't in slightly more spectacular surroundings.

I tried to take some from the Midi station balcony of lightning on Mt Rosa for a few hours one night, but was underestimating time required, and all came out underexposed. Such were the joys of film photography.

Some cool pictures of Saturn from Cassini (apologies can't be arsed trying to work around their embedding avoidance tactics).

Pulled over at the top of the Longshaw Estate where you can head down to Froggatt or over to Owler Bar on the way back from Buxton at two minutes to midnight last night and snapped some shots of the gorgeous setting sun (I'd meant to get out on the equinox to get some pictures but never made it, this has made up for it though  :))...

Do you mean the solstice?

Sunset was great last might, its all about the cloud, they make or break it. I guess the moon had set by then but it was a cracker, very thin crescent low in the west.

 yes, I is easily confused sometimes (its all the Michael Jackson jokes today, they've fried my mind).

Clouds are indeed where its at.  I took this one earlier in the evening from Harpur Hill, but the moon was too far South to get in view (still saving for a wide angle lens!)

Apologies to disappoint, but that was actually in the forefront of my mind whilst driving up Froggatt hill and I was determined to snap a picture at that precise time  :)

Oh and what a great pub the Travellers Rest is on the A53 from Buxton to Leek, Live Jazz band, free sausages and chips and tons of interesting trinkets...

I think the Hartnoll brothers might have been in there before!!!

Table with proper old pennies embedded in it.

Photosecosse on flickr has some stunning images (not embedded as they explicitly ask not to, but there's a very cute baby elephant and mum on the front page at the moment).

The Kenya Set is very good as are Botswanna and Namibia.

Closer to home their shots of the Scottish highlands are stunning. Spring [urlhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/babsphotosecosse/sets/72157603224994502/Summer[/url] Autumn Winter Isle of Skye.

^^^ this brings back so many memories from last summer! I have a few similar (but not quite as good) photos myself!

One from a friend's Glastonbury album. Appropriately titled "the strangest moment of my life".

This is a picture a friend took over three seasons from the same spot at Chatsworth, obviously its required some 'shopping but I think its done really well, its a shame it wasn't a clear day on the two where the sky is included

It's a great idea, and well done, but 3 average pics combined make one average pic.
