A dingy would be amazing, or even inflated tractor inner tubes... Now that would be eXtreme... :P  If it's so dangerous surely "advertising" such a stunt on national media is not the best idea... Kids will get all sorts of wrong ideas and some of them may even stop playing on the Xbox's and get outside...
Here's Shaun Baker from back in the 90's

This also looks fun

Would it actually scrape the bottom? I have no idea. Be fun unless the dingy burst, then it would scrape a bit. White water raft would be choice.

I think it would depend on the amount of flow, and the displacement of the dingy. Apparently the more water on the slipway the slower the ride cos of extra turbulence. If there is just a little water it lubricates the concrete whilst not being choppy enough to slow the kayak down.
Yeah... a 300ft slide on low grade concrete would not be fun especially on your face. Like super road rash.

There was a sky just like that over Sheffield some years ago - i'm sure many of us will remember it; it was totally bizarre.

Try this photoset Jim - nice subtle (pseudo) HDRs

HDaRRggghhh.

Those flicka ones are 'subtle' because they don't require HDR in the first place. Its always going to be subtle if you've only 5 stops of tone to start with, ie its LDR

Not sure you can say that for certain unless you've seen the originals. If they were ok why did he/she hdr in the first place?

I have no idea, because its the cool thing to do on Flicka? I've taken enough photos to recognise a scene with too high contrast for conventional photography, and none of those are.

HDR has its uses, and it is possible to make amazing images with it. However 99% of those I've seen in the last year just use it for its own sake.

The problem is those using it for the right reasons are unlikely to want to advertise it-  just another tool in the box etc. So the best (to my eye anyway) are unlikely to either look or be labelled HDR.

There's a good primer here though: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/high-dynamic-range.htm

Note how his examples don't 'look' HDR at all. The average flicka user would have had thrown the local contrast baby out with the global contrast bathwater.

oh shit, flickr is awash with nonplus hdrs. heres a random few that offend me:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/gsyrba/2356173910/

I'm with JB on this one - most overtly HDR shots you see on flickr are generall in a set with 160 other similar shots where the guy went out one day thinking "i've read about this on the internet so lets go out and shoot some HDRs", and as a result it always looks fucking dreadful. using any technique for the sake of it generally is a recipe for producing trite unviewable shit. The fact anyone proclaims it as HDR is a warning signal, afterall people have been compositing different exposures of the same images together for the same reason for decades, it just that giving it a name and assigning it to a function in photoshop is new, so people have gone apeshit on it.

I know nothing of HDR, and in fact very little about photography.
I can see how your last two pics are 'wrong' Dave. The first looks a bit wierd to me, but still kind of plausible. The second one seems not especially offensive and looks like it could be 'real' to me. Although it also looks like chateau Font, in which case why is the photographer wasting time at a poxy castle when he should be at Cuvier....

Care to provide enlightenment?

I like this: It's well magic mushroomy, it looks like a cheap transfer on some 70's ceramic tat.
