I've got a fleece lined pair that I was gifted (well, wellies with a removable fleece insert). I think the proper ones can get spenny as they're all marketed at Horse and Hound types.

I bought some Decathlon snow hiking boots last year £35.  Wore them with thin socks in -3c on the Moor this week, feet still roast toasty. Best purchase ever!

They’re not cheap but these were one of the best £150 I ever spent (or very similar pair). They have proper soles and I can easily have them for a full day out with the dog.

I never realised footwear could be so warm, and I expect them to last years and years…

I picked up an excellent pair in the centre aisle of Lidl a couple of years ago. Neoprene and very warm, possibly worth a glance to see if they’re available again this year, as I think they cost me £20 ish.

I've got a pair of Aigle Parcours 2 -Siberia boots for long winter walk-ins - neoprene and fake fur lined for warmth - also designed to be good for walking long distances in.  I've really liked them for walks to Crookrise etc - and I tend to get very cold feet (unfortunately they don't magically prevent it from raining).  Pricey though - they're handmade in France and mainly aimed at hunters.   

Muck Boots are highly rated, including by my Mum.  I got her a pair of the women's equivalent of these as a belated Christmas present last year, after she made such a fuss over my Aigles.  I couldn't find a pair of those for her and these seemed the nearest thing.  They do lots of other cold weather models, and you often find special offers.

They look very similar to the wellies I wear - another Aigle Parcours 2 variant.  I think yours have a slightly thicker neoprene lining but without the fake fur.

Really good, if you can find them in the right size. But a quick Google throws up several similar makes/types. Buy a half size up and some fleece socks/liners?

I still prefer my Decathlon lace up/high leg snow boots for any rough ground walk-in stuff. Even un-laced for quick change. Old now and long extinct as a model, but there’s bound to be an equivalent.

Probably not as good for longer walks through snow etc. as the lace ups but the primary purpose is to keep my feet warm on bouldering missions in the winter and they are more than adequate for this.  Quick on and off too which again is great for bouldering. 
DG I feel your pain and certainly don't have £100s to spend on wellies! However, any insulated boot (even the cheapest models) are going to increase comfort levels massively.  Lidl's/ Aldi often have bargain snow boots that will do the trick.

I've got a pair of the £15 decathlon ones and they're ace, swear by 'em. I did have to invest in a pair of insoles though as they were pretty uncomfortable for longer walks. Plenty of notes left over for that though, and think mine have been going for 3+ years so far and still going strong as far as I can tell.

Went for these Nokian ones (from Finland so they know about bogs and cold), good and warm with a proper hiking boot style sole. The little elastic gater at the top is also handy for stopping twigs and other crap getting in your wellies if you're on an off piste approach.

They also do gloves, vests etc. And scooters. Battery tech is really coming along, hopefully won't be too much longer until graphene aluminium batteries hit the market which mean we'll have charge times 60x faster and 3x the power density of lithium. System change not climate change!  Individual action vs. the need to holistically change systems to affect the level of change required.  It is the classic critique of environmentalists to point out the hypocrisy of their individual actions without accounting for the system they live in. Besides which the additional fossil fuel burned in order to reheat my pinky toes is offset by the boots.  He said desperately trying to justify his actions.     I am now searching, unfruitfully, for  a local, plant based snow boot factories with a worker's cooperative.

I think walking boots are a poor choice compared to a welly for boggy or snowy approaches, as you just end up with muddy or wet trousers, unless you are going for a gater too, at which point you may as well get the red socks and compass out and leave the pads at home!

Toasty in the snow?

Well, I've just got back from a walk in the £30 decathlon wellies, and though I was warm I do have slightly damp feet.That might be a bit of snow going down them, but I have noticed this before on a really long boggy walk. I suspect the cheaper ones are more waterproof as they have the plastic that goes most of the way up, rather than just the 'waterproof membrane'. I'd say if you want something for typical grit bouldering crags then the cheaper ones would be the best bet, just don't expect them to very comfortable or durable for mega long walks over the moors.

I use wellies a lot. For me the sole is massively important. Lots of wellies, including most expensive neoprene/fleece lined ones have shit soles. Not what you want when you're teetering around on wet/snowy/icy Rock with a cumbersome pad full of kit on your back.
