Cybernetics: Would you?

Cybernetics.

Since there has been a spate of Navel Gazing of an existential and spiritual nature, of late; that seems to represent a quest for (almost) superhuman ability...

I thought I’d ask how people would feel about technological solutions to our inadequacies?

I would.

Almost without drawing breath.

Take anything going.

Enhanced strength? Limitless endurance?
Yes, but I’d rather be able to breath underwater or be immune to altitude issues etc.

Obviously, competitions would be a difficult proposition, and ethics a total farce, but wouldn’t it be fun?

You could get a sub-dermal heating network add-on for that, tt.

P.S. I did spend a while musing over this topic decades ago after reading a few of Iain M Banks' books, and was going to writing an article "Climbing in the Culture" - based around what it would mean to have a personally challenging activity like climbing in a utopia like Banks's Culture in which automated galactic resources and technological advancement allow unlimited self-modification. I think the interesting angle would be in holding a mirror up to our own personal-limited climbing to show what makes it special and inspiring. Never got around to writing it though.

I’m dead against it.

Exactly, I look at the Culture model of Transhumanism as really quite inspiring.
Maybe I could just gland something to quiet that right hemisphere.

Tom, you wear glasses don’t you? (Possibly not, but you will soon).
I know you have an Apple watch...

Is it cheating, when a Bird watcher uses binoculars?
(I’ve always wondered where the Amish stand, with optics).

You can probably get an implant for that.
