I am on my second pair of solutions now the strap snapped on the first pair and i'm now beginning to see it wearing down in the same place on the second pair. Does anyone know if there is any way of preventing it from further wearing?

Some rubber glue, sillecone or "shoo goo" on the strap makes a big difference. Only a thin layer, so it can still pas through the rings if necessary.

I've used finger tape and duct tape at various times which prolong the life of straps. The glue sounds better though

I've heard of this happening, but never to my shoes. Is there something that you do to make them more susceptible to this?

I must have had around 10 pairs, and the only ones that snapped were well and truly shagged after a year of climbing.
All the rest wore through the toes well before anything else went.

I have had one snap on a quite old pair, I just thoroughly stitched the two ends back together and no problems since.

Had a couple of pairs go. In my experience it stems from bad footwork  ; foot scumming on grit seems to wear the brass "eye" that the strap passes through, this then sharpens the edges which then "saws" through the strap webbing. In the past I have successfully tied a knot in it to reconnect (depends where on the strap it splits).

whilst this is part of the issue, it def is NOT bad footwork

I came to the solution that applying nail varnish to the eyelets would probably sort it. I had the same issue with 5.10 teams and the metal loop for the strap getting scratched and sharpened as mention higher up. Just keep an eye on the metal bits...
